Best European city you’ve visited 💜

What is the best European city you’ve been to for a short break? I would love to hear about any relatively cheap hotel you discovered too Grin

We have younger and older children and want to book a five day break over half term.

Done and loved Amsterdam several times. Been thinking Prague but I don’t really have a clue. Would so love some help!

Which European city have you loved and where did you stay? Wanting to start ticking some off as the years roll by.

Thank you!

Istanbul is amazing - so much to see and do. Taking the ferry along the Bosphorus is stunning.

Berlin is very interesting and quirky too. Love anywhere in southern Spain too, whether it's Malaga (beautiful at Christmas and in the summer), Granada or Cordoba.

Bruges and Venice.
I love that there are no cars in Venice.

Prague or Budapest. Couldn't stand Rome (haven't been for 25 years though).

I loved Lisbon, Rome and Barcelona.

We got the train to Cascais from Lisbon too which is great for a chill out day.

Warsaw. Cheap as chips. There's a sadness about it too. Easy train ride to Krakov.

OP can you give a bit more of a clue.
What do your children enjoy doing? Do they want art and museums? visits to famous historical sites? Are the older ones old enough to go off by themselves? Do they want sports and activities? Are they adventurous with food? Do you all want a bit of sun?

Loved Madrid, Lisbon, Brussels (seriously, loads to do, cosmopolitan, user friendly, more expensive though) Paris.

Smaller cities (so possibly not 5 days worth, though I could do it) Florence, Siena, Toledo, Salamanca.

This summer I spent 5 days in Rome and 5 in Florence. Both heavenly, Florence more expensive. Rome was almost embarrassingly cheap. (I live in the south of Italy and we pay loads more down here)

I've had (cancelled) trips booked for Berlin, Vienna and Copenhagen. One day ..

Lisbon and Bergen. Both fabulous. I used to be BA short haul crew so yes I have tried pretty much everywhere!

Budapest. Most beautiful and interesting city I've ever visited

Also really loved Granada.

Venice is great, especially during biennale if you love art.

Can't beat London either...

Paris has changed. I used to live there and loved it. Took DC and hated it. Grubby, angry, hideously overpriced, hassling place.

Istanbul is also fascinating and beautiful.

I've never been but always wanted to go to Berlin and Barcelona.

Budapest is amazing! There is so much to see, city is beautiful in the evening as everything is lit up and it’s cheap as chips - we were getting 3 course meals with win for £12-15pp. Highly highly recommend!

Krakow, beautiful city especially at Christmas, lovely friendly people, amazing food and all very cheap, lots for children too, the salt mines were really interesting for them, there's usually an open air ice skating rink ( not sure about post covid though) worth checking entry/quarentine requirements for teens though 😒

Verona is beautiful. quite small to fill 5 days though. You could always get the train to Venice, and a trip to Lake Garda.

Love Rome (stay in Travestere) but would put Florence and, of course, Venice above that. Venice is otherwordly. But you don't need many days and food better in Florence/Rome. Even if you go to Rome in one of the busier times, there is always a street you can venture donw that is empty. They do operate in palaces where each act moves from room to room - magical!

New convert to Paris - this time around and this generation much more happy to speak English. Stay in the St Germain district - beautiful.

Barcelona, Copenhagen, Stockholm great too. Don't rate Naples, Milan etc quite as highly.

You probably won’t end up going there OP but shout out to Belfast, a real city, lots to take in, very friendly.

My favourite is Valletta in Malta. It's very buzzy, loads of history. Very easy to travel around the island by bus or take a ferry to other resorts You could easily fill 5 days. We stayed for a week and would love to go back
