Best European city you’ve visited 💜
Holidayplans · 19/09/2021 11:15
What is the best European city you’ve been to for a short break? I would love to hear about any relatively cheap hotel you discovered too
We have younger and older children and want to book a five day break over half term.
Done and loved Amsterdam several times. Been thinking Prague but I don’t really have a clue. Would so love some help!
Which European city have you loved and where did you stay? Wanting to start ticking some off as the years roll by.
Thank you!

We had this conversation last night in a group of friends and everyone who had been said Prague was amazing.
Personally, nowhere for me beats Rome.

Barcelona. Not just for the architecture but the fact that you can go to the beach. Pobleneu and Barceloneta beach are ok but you can even jump on a train and either go to Calella way or down in Sitges direction. If you don't like the beach there is enough to keep you occupied in Barcelona for 5 days.

Budapest is wonderful. A stunning city with loads to do for all ages and very cheap as a tourist.

Amersfoort is lovely, only about 40 minutes from Amsterdam, but not as many drug tourists.

Very friendly city and great food

Copenhagen - it has the bonus that the kids will love Tivoli

Florence, Barcelona, Bruges, Salzburg were all great. Geneva was also good, as was Seville. Not a massive fan of Prague.

Agree Rome, by a long way. Hated Paris, really hated it.
AdaColeman · 19/09/2021 11:36
Rome for all the layers of history, good interesting food, weather, and exciting city vibe.
Krakow for the culture, laid back elegance, good restaurants, friendly people.
Luckystar1 · 19/09/2021 11:36
Rome for me too. I am jealous when I hear someone is going for their first time. There’s nothing like your first visit to Rome!
Porto is also lovely!

Malaga is often overlooked, it's a great little city in its own right and is a good base for exploring the other 'big ticket' cities in the region. Also Malaga beach was empty on a Sunday afternoon when I visited which is almost unheard of in Spain in my experience 😂

Rome - amazing with so many familiar sights to see in person, though frantic and a bit bonkers too. Good food expensive in the centre as it's a capital city.
Valencia - compact, walkable, varied architecture, beautiful parks, by the sea, fab weather. What's not to love?
