Rome and Sicily with a 6 year old

I’ve set my heart on this trip for may/June half term next year with a volcano mad 6yo dd.
Staying at probably camp fabulous in Rome then flying to palmero for 2 days/1night to see mount etna one day than entaland the other.
Anyone done anything similar and has any tips?
Hotels etc?
It will be hot enough to swim outdoors in June I’m presuming?
Any knowledge would be great!!

Really important to check that etnaland is open in June! Opened mid July this year.

I don't recall a Gladiator School but it was a fair few years ago now, so probably changed a bit. They did have lots of entertainment for kids, including a little show with music and dancing every evening. The restaurant on site did amazing pizzas too!

I can't recall exactly how long the journey to the centre of Rome too, think it was about an hour. Easy enough but just a bit fiddly as it meant a bus and train/underground, especially if we had just missed a bus! Definitely doable, even with kids though!

How long was the journey from the camp to Rome?

We stayed at Camp Fabulous a few years ago in May half term with kids ages 7 and 4 and they loved it! The pool was brilliant, definitely warm enough to swim. Only tricky part was dragging them away for a day trip out! It is a bit awkward getting from the campsite in to Rome, was a bus and train but easy enough to do, just took a bit of time. Would also recommend a trip to Ostia Antica. Quieter than the sites in Rome and was also a bus and train journey away but straightforward.

Would have loved to visit Etna and Pompeii. Sounds amazing!

Thank you!! I’ve been to Rome several times so want a more kid friendly trip. I’ve chose may over august as it’s just too hot!

We actually took the train from Rome to Naples, which was super easy, then visited all the sights from there.

Sounds great but I'd definitely fly to Catania not Palermo, it takes about 4 hours on some terrible roads to get to Etna from Palermo whereas Catania is right next to it. It will definitely be hot enough to swim outside (for a Brit, the locals might still think it's cold!).
