Jet 2 package villa & car

Hi, has anyone ever done a package villa holiday with Jet 2, with car hire?

We have a villa in Menorca booked including car. Still hoping to go- mid Sept. we are taking our toddler and have booked a car seat.

They have sent through a document with lots of scary info suggesting we need to stump up 1400 as a deposit for the excess. This seems, well, excessive!

I have general annual car hire excess insurance but don't know if this covers it. With a toddler I haven't got loads of time to research all this, so thought it would be worth asking on here if anyone's ever used the car hire option as part of a package deal, and how easy was it to navigate?

They will come up with an excuse as to why your insurance is no good and why you have to take theirs. The fact is that the base price is too low so they only make a profit if they add on extras.

Also watch out for the fuel policy and if it's full to empty, that adds the cost of a tank of fuel that you probably won't use. Also avoid that if you can.

Read the moneysaving expert guide to foreign rental cars for full details.

Likely you will have to pay the excess, or they will offer to reduce it for a daily fee.

Just about all Spanish hire car companies operate like this and it makes it hard to compare prices.

Best thing to do is take a credit card to put the excess on, ideally one that doesn't charge a conversion fee, make sure it's all in Euros, don't accept their kind offer to do it in pounds because they set the exchange rate to suit them.

Then if they don't refund your excess you claim it from your UK insurance.

However if it's goldcar or record I'd probably not take the car and arrange your own.

Hiper something or Centauro are good in the balearics, I've used both multiple times without issue.

So the excess insurance would mean you don't have to pay the excess or a waiver?

With car hire you have the choice of a high excess or paying for a waiver, it's generally cheaper to buy excess insurance before you go than from the hire company
