Why has Portugal been taken off the quarantine list?

This is so encouraging, thank you both for replying. Can't wait to get there!

I've just booked flights for a long weekend to Lisbon next weekend. Can't wait.

@letsmaketea it's pretty much normal there. I went there end of June and stayed until the first week of July. I even got my haircut down there! They wear masks and most places have hand gel anyway. Some restaurants have your temp taken. For the first time in months, I felt normal when I was in Portugal. Everyone's out and about, dining, shopping etc but taking care and have good awareness of the virus. Although Albufeira was dead when I was there, It's probably a bit busier now since they have had their own Portuguese nationals arriving from fellow EU countries for the summer. The hotel was immaculate (hygiene wise) and most places in Algarve as it's a large region and not densely populated, you are not crowded on the streets. The flight there and back you must wear a mask as soon as you enter the airports and tbh, it's not bad. The flight is only 2.5 hours and it's manageable in terms of wearing a mask. Honestly enjoy yourself. I would go back there again right now if I could and in fact move there and live there forever lol. Also, when I was there the sea was very chilly but the locals said at the time the sea would warm up the following week due to warm waves from the Mediterranean approaching. So it must be very warm in the sea now.

@letsmaketea I'm in the Algarve at the moment. It's quiet but not dead, the weather is perfect, and the region has had 17 Corona deaths in total.

Bliss.

takenbywine we are off to the Algarve on Monday, would you mind telling me how it was when you were in the country (I appreciate that different areas may be different!)

Portugal never should have never been on that list. I went and got back had to self isolate and I could tell you, that country is way better than us in terms of managing the virus!

It is the number of new coronavirus cases per 100,000 population over the last seven days.

Portugal should never have been on the list - the numbers were absolutely tiny compared with ours, and the only reason was that there was rapid growth of cases, within very discrete and contained outbreaks. But the actual numbers of infections were really, really low. Nothing like the numbers that caused areas in the UK to go back into lockdown, for instance.

Anyway, they lost out big time in terms of tourism this summer. Sad

Sorry I was looking for a statistics/ numbers/ factual reason.

Are there numbers per 1000 that mean countries are added or taken off? Is it possible in comparison to the UK?

Because they no longer need to be on it, not sure what kind of Answer you're looking for

Because they have minimal cases so the risk is extremely small
