Please can anyone recommend any thing fun to do for a long weekend in Folkestone? Also if there are any sandy beaches nearby? We are taking a 1 year old and 3 year old. Thank you!

I used love getting a pot of whelks or other seafood from the harbour. Rocksalt restaurant has a bistro type thing on top floor with lovely views and less posh than-the Resto downstairs. I've taken dd there.

Thank you for all these ideas! And for the tip about checking the tides!

If you do head to dymchurch then check the tide times. At low tide there are miles and miles of glorious sandy beaches, but at high tide the sea all the way in and there is zero beach.

I'd also suggest wingham wildlife park link it's a really lovely zoo which is perfect for toddlers. (Port Lympe zoo might be a bit too much walking around for them)

Dover Castle is good.
Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway (steam train) is taking bookings:

Folkestone has a sandy beach, down behind the old harbour. The funicular is fun, if it's still going. The prom along the top of Leas Cliff is nice. Dymchurch down the coast has amusements etc. Dover Castle is a good day out.
