Barcelona lockdown

Anyone know anything about local lockdowns and refunds? Any travel agents or easyJet staff?

I’ve very recently booked a package holiday to Barcelona in two weeks (sods law lockdown happens days after booking)

Barcelona currently on voluntary lockdown possibly may become legal lockdown

I know planes are still flying to Barcelona which makes sense as the airport serves many areas which are not on lockdown but I’ve booked a package with a hotel bang in Barcelona in one of the neighbourhoods with an outbreak

Do you know if it would get cancelled if barcelona city went full lockdown - no one in or out? As obviously I can’t get to hotel then? Or even cancelled given its local gov advice?

I’m surprised they haven’t cancelled it already as even though it’s a voluntary lockdown they’ve advised against all unessential movements and told people not to travel to second homes etc

Just not sure what I’m entitled too as currently, due to it being 2 weeks away and a holiday, I can’t change anything - I’m relying on it getting cancelled for refund

I defo do not want voucher. Can’t gwt hold of anyone at easyJet and I’ve been messaging ringing and tweeting since Thursday and clock is ticking

TUI have now cancelled all flights to mainland Spain and the islands.

That was 13 deaths in Catalonia alone V 3 in Spain overall

Eg on 24/7 Catalan news reported 13 Covid deaths in funeral homes yet overall Spain was 3?! Don’t think they’re counting care homes

Girl

The Spanish are confusing in how they report deaths as they had 7 deaths alone in Catalonia today yet the overall Spain was lower i don’t get it

The cases being found now would not have been detected during the first part of the outbreak. The deaths have remained static at 2–4 per day in the whole of Spain for weeks and weeks now.
However, there is a lot of caution so who knows what measures they will take next. It’s basically the opposite approach to the UK and probably why the death rate is over 60 today compared with 4 in Spain.
Remember you have to wear a mask at all times except at home and it is hot. For that reason alone I wouldn’t visit.

Hi my flight back was cancelled yesterday anyway due to low numbers so I can automatically get refund but yes I’m so pleased!
Just so relieved!

Think all holidays will now esp packages as my package actually had it in the guarantee that it’d be cancelled automatically if there was a requirement to isolate either side of the trip (easyJet but many operators have this rule)

@daisymay133 have you seen the FCO have advised against travel to Spain now? So you could probably get a refund? Fingers crossed

Do u know anyone there and what the vibe is as I keep reading mixed messages?

Some websites say Spanish ‘cases’ include antibody results which are obviously past infections but then can’t imagine they are restricting for nothing? Just not sure what to do with having kids to take?

It’s a case of lose all my money or go 😩

I'm waiting too. We have to go to find a flat for my daughter. So hoping there isn't total lockdown.

Hi CAn you not just change online under manage my booking? If it’s 3+ weeks I thought you could do it yourself 🤔

How it’s so stressful - I’ve gone from potentiall booking an overpriced Cornwall to booking a bargain Barcelona and now no holiday because I’ll lose the money!

Following. We’re booked to go in 3 weeks with BA on a package but it seems impossible to speak to anyone in their holiday team.
I’ve requested a voucher as we will just book somewhere else instead but haven’t heard anything back yet

Sorry, crosspost! I don't know their policies but if they're still flying and the hotel remains open, probably not? Hotels unlikely to close unless it absolutely has to because they've already lost so much income. It's a tricky one, sorry!

I can imagine! I guess what I’m asking and hoping is that if Barcelona lockdown becomes stricter like Leida, would that force easyJet to cancel my holiday given I couldn’t enter Barcelona for tourism/my hotel package or would that only happen IF fco changed advice? Surely they can’t enforce a holiday I can’t go to? But then it is easyJet!

In Spain, on the news what’s the vibe at the munite, are they discussing stricter measures in the news for Barcelona? Thanks!

I think the outbreaks in Spain were/are inevitable because we have a huge fiesta at the end of June (similar to your bonfire night) which is all about letting go of the past and regrets which coincided with the end of lockdown and the tourists coming in!! It was always going to happen!

I don't think you're in danger of the virus because we have very strict distance and mask rules but you are in danger of having your holiday interrupted by changing legislation I'm afraid. And tbh I was really shocked by how the govt and embassy did next to nothing to help stranded Brits get home so if you come make sure you've got the resources for a quick getaway!

Yes you would be able to leave to go back to the airport to get home etc but you may end up stuck in the city! The most worrying would be if the hotel closed while you were there. I think it is unlikely to happen but our original lockdown was a huge shock and without warning so I'm not the best predictor!!!

I know the outbreaks seem small but actually Barcelona has had double the Covid cases per day than the entire UK has!

Hi in Leida the lockdown states no one in and out and it’s being enforced by police check points etc whereas the barcelona one is voluntary and no one is being checked / just advised and they’re relying on good will buy therrs talk of it being enforced like Leida

Leida must be different surely because it’s being enforced?

My hotel is in Barcelona city centre

From what I understand (I live in another part of Spain) the state of alarm (the law needed to be in a state of alarm before any lockdown rules could be imposed) has ended and not been restarted and there isn't the political support to do so. Therefore, from now, any local lockdowns are advisory rather than obligatory. More like the lockdown you had in the uk than before. So you're asked to stay indoors rather than told. Masks are obligatory though.

If there was a lockdown like we had before the hotels would have to close close and you'd be told to get home but the embassy would be unlikely to help.

What area is it? Lleida? A lot of the "outbreaks" reported are very small.

If it was flight only I could change but there’s no options for holidays once in 3 week window and dh won’t take kids now
