Hello. Just after opinions I have a holiday booked (which has been booked since October 2019)
It's a 2 hour flight and a villa holiday. Once we are there we have no plans to be out and about just chill with family.
I have a 7 month old and a 6 year old I'm so nervous of flying with COVID-19.
Anyone else flying with little ones?
I've also contemplated driving.

No Wizz

Barcelona has gone into a voluntary lockdown today with people advised (not law) to go only when necessary

Stuff still open but people told essential only

Hope easyJet cancel but because it’s not forced they may not

@Sheena130 thank you for sharing your experience. We are going to the Algarve next week and have been back and forth on what we should do but finally decided yesterday that we will go. It is reassuring to hear you had a good time. We are staying in a villa also.

Waste of 1.5k😩

I’d avoid on

Barcelona cases have tripled last 3 days and are now facing further lockdown and cos I’m in 3 week window I can’t cancel 😩

I'm contemplating booking Greece for first week of September - I'd go. Like you say how long should we/do we wait?

If it helps from a statistical point of view...Jersey are testing all passengers who arrive on boat or plane over the age of 11. Since 3rd July they have tested 4130 people and 4 were positive and all asymptomatic which apparently carries a lower risk level of transmission. So those are people travelling to there from UK airports and nothing else flying in right now. I would definitely fly to Spain on that basis.

@Sheena130

We are back a few days now, flights to Faro return and 2 children under 10. All went better than expected, flights are much nicer and quieter as no walking around in the cabin unless you need to so nobody was. Everybody has the same goal to stay safe so there was no noise really just everyone with tablet/phone & resting. My kids had no problem wearing mask they do it when they see everyone else doing it and they were much better behaved than normal! We put luggage in the hold as easier to manage keep everyone sanatised. There is limited snacks/drinks on board so maybe eat at home or bring your own sandwiches if you think you will need them.
In the Algarve it was very well organised but much quieter than normal, you have to wear a mask indoors shops, going to toilet in restaurant etc but kids get used to it quickly. We stayed in a private villa and had car hire and most restaurants are outdoors and have social distancing. Beaches are also well organised and there is an app called "info Praia" that you can download and will tell you if beaches in your location are busy, green/yellow/red system.
I was also nervous before going but when we were there we quickly realised we felt very safe.
Any questions just ask...

Thank you so much, really appreciate you replying with your experience.
I'm about 70% we're going at the moment Smile we have no plans to go anywhere when we get there just relax at our villa x

I’m going two weeks

Air in the plane is filtered down and out and replace every 3-4 minutes so safer than anywhere

Disinfected daily by sprays etc

Spain literally spray everywhere and now all wear masks - we aren’t doing any of that so defo safer there !

Plus kids under 11 don’t need mask

I would go. We are hoping to go away on Monday. Similar situation as we are staying in a villa with no plans other than a trip to the beach. Go and enjoy your holiday.

Thanks all for your replies. Mixed reactions. My thought is how long do we wait, we may have to live with this virus for a very long time and there no guarantee of a vaccine.
I think I'll have to see nearer the time how I feel.

I honestly wouldn’t go.

We are viral vectors. This is a pandemic.

I think you have to wear masks when inside on ferries. I think you may also have to wear them on deck on the Dover to Calais route. However I think on Brittany Ferries you only need to wear them in communal indoor spaces. I would not be keen to fly at present unless I had a holiday already booked somewhere that it wasn’t possible to get to by car and ferry.

Yeah my 6 year old will and I'm also getting him and my baby a face shield. We have an early flight so hoping my baby will sleep with his dummy the whole time (the boy does love his sleep) Smile

I'm going away on Friday Grin have a nice trip! Don't worry

Will your 6yo wear a mask for the whole flight?

@okiedokieme I thought ferries said they were compulsory, as classed as public transport?
I'm wary of airports - to me that's the biggest risk.

yearinyearout · 13/07/2020 09:20

The air conditioning in planes goes through filters to clean it, so that and the fact that everyone will be wearing a mask makes it pretty safe. I'd be happy to fly, just be careful with hand washing etc.

Report
okiedokieme · 13/07/2020 08:41

Personally I'm driving but more because I hate masks (ferry doesn't require them on deck and we have a cabin) if I had a booking I would probably go though.

Report
Adeleide2 · 13/07/2020 08:18

I would not fly at the moment. Airports and planes will be hubs for getting infections.
I would worry about a second wave when people start travelling.

I have my family abroad who I have not seen since last year and still won’t travel to see them let alone a holiday.

Thanks for replying. It's really just the flight I'm concerned about. Probably a control thing as I can control the other situations Grin

I'm Flying to Majorca 14th August with my 2 dc 14 and 11 and apart from wearing masks when walking around in public I don't think there is anything to think about differently
Spain has massively eased lock down and majority of the time you will be outside or in your own accommodation
