I might be looking for the impossible here! We never usually go away in the school holidays, but DH has a week booked off work that he can't change in August.

We want s/c accommodation, close to the coast for walking, and a local pub. Don't require any family attractions. Is there anywhere that might not be overrun with kids this summer, or is that an impossible ask?

Loving the Northumberland recommendations - we are off to Bamburgh for a week in August.

Northumberland is beautiful but we only went last year, we actually stayed in Seahouses.
Will check out West wales and see what I can find, thanks

Scottish Highlands and Islands. They're generally quieter than the rest of the UK and the Scottish schoolchildren will be back at school.

This year? Nowhere, I shouldn't think! UK residents will be avoiding going abroad and looking for a nice place to stay in the UK. That's why we've decided not to go away at all!

West coast of wales is always gorgeous and not that busy.

If it's mid to late August - Scotland. The Scottish children are back at school.
