USA road trip

thinking about when we can have a holiday as its been years so next year or year after we'd like to do a USA road trip Jan/ Feb time of year taking in some nice beaches.
Can anyone recomend routes, nice places they have stayed?

If you want to do a USA road trip visiting nice beaches in Jan-Feb I recommend you head to Florida and maybe drive from Miami down the Keys to Key West. Either that or possibly southern California. Neither will be hot at that time of year, but they could well be mild, sunny and pleasant. FGS don't head to the NE - it's bloody freezing in Jan/Feb!

We spent a few weeks one Jan/Feb on a road trip in California/Arizona/Nevada.

San Diego-Phoenix-Flagstaff-Grand Canyon-Vegas-Death Valley-Lake Isabella-Yosemite-San Francisco-Monterey-Big Sur-Santa Monica-San Diego

It was great at that time of year. It was t-shirt weather in parts (South California and Death Valley) but freezing cold in others (snow in Grand Canyon was amazing and skiing in Yosemite). So you’d need to pack a good mix of clothes!

How long do you have? That trip obviously took us a few weeks. You could do the San Francisco to San Diego coastal trip if you don’t have ages. I’d guess that would be some of the best weather in the states in Jan if you want to be coastal.

It's not beachy but North & South Dakota are stunning, as is Colorado.

We done some of the Pacific Coast Highway last year and it was beautiful as well.

I would also recommend the New England coast or North Carolina but not at that time of year. If you want beaches then your only options in winter are California or the South. You could do Florida all the way down to the Keys or Florida and Savannah in Georgia. The only other option in the south would be the Gulf so Florida Pandandle, the tiny bits of Alabama and Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas. I have road tripped all of those and each has plenty to see and do. You need to consider the weather wherever you decide to go. bigfootfred if you can I’d go in the summer and go for as long as you can. There is so much to see.

We started from NYC, then went via Rhode Island( mansion walk)Plymouth Plantation To Cape Cod. Stayed in Brewster( Brewster General store) and did Shining Sea bikeway( amazing), whale watching in Province Town, Martha’s Vineyard,Nickerson State Park), Chatham....

Then via Boston( Harvard, MIT, TeaParty Ship) to Maine( Sebasco Harbour, Camden, Lobster Shack at Two Lights area,Bar Harbour and Acadia( which was amazing sea kayaking, Sand Beach, Jordan Pond, Cadillac Mountain, Bass Harbour).

Then went across to New Hampshire and down through Vermont( spine route which was stunning).

Did Salem but it’s shite.

Took 5 weeks, loved every minute and will be going back. Would love to see it all in winter but think Cape Cod would be at it’s best in the summer. Maine would be freezing but could handle a log cabin somewhere.< dreams>

In jan/feb you need to stick to the south or west coast unless you want to drive on snow. San Diego, Arizona, New Mexico to Texas is a great trip - hugging the Mexican border you should avoid white stuff. The west coast is an option, if you stay west of the mountains it rarely snows but expect rain.

It is very cold and snowy at Cape Cod at that time of year. You would need to go south. I have been in Miami in Feb and it was nice so somewhere along the south coast might be good?

@WhiteC0sm05 where did you go and what did you do in Maine and Cape Cod? I'm thinking of doing Boston, Salem, Connecticut and Cape Cod sometimes in the next few years. With a possible hop over the border to Maine for some lobster!

The above recommendations are lovely, but so is North Carolina. Gorgeous beaches on one side, breathtaking mountains on the other. Asheville, NC is spectacular and you can drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
