DH, DD and I are booked to go to Florida this September but have just discovered that I am pregnant (Smile). IF (I know it could get cancelled anyway), travel is allowed by then would you recommend flying/going at nearly 6 months pg?

Normally flying at that stage would be no problem (I flew long haul at that stage and later in both pregnancies), but the combination of pregnancy, US health costs/insurance and coronavirus would definitely make me think twice at the moment. Nothing is likely to be back to normal by then.

Can you cancel now without losing too much money, or do you have to wait for the trip to become clearly impossible?

Definitely not. I don’t think I’d feel comfortable flying even short haul under normal circumstances but we’re in the midst of a global pandemic. Could you get your money back?

No definitely not.

Short haul and not in a global pandemic. Absolutely fine.

Long haul + Global pandemic, deadly virus, close proximity to people. Virus spreading through air conditioning system. NO. Just no: I’m shocked you think it’s a good idea.

Apart from the fact the USA is totally and utterly incompetent at dealing with COVID19, and question marks around whether or not your insurance would cover baby early arrival or COVID19? Assuming you are going to Orlando, admissions to parks are likely to be severely reduced and do you want to be wearing a mask and gloves in that heat? Honestly, I am not setting a foot back in the USA for a long time - and I spend my summers working there!!!!!

But travelling long haul at six months (so long as you are fit and healthy) is normally fine. I went to St Lucia when I was six months pregnant and had a lovely relaxing time. I wouldn’t be flying anywhere in the world if I was pregnant now though, particularly as women in their last trimester are seen as at risk and being told to self isolate. Disappointing as it may be, I would use the pregnancy as a reason to cancel and / or claim off your insurance.
