Just read on Sky News that FlyBe are in survival talks to avoid going bust. There won’t be any regional airlines left soon in the UK. I hope they don’t go the same way at Thomas Cook, Monarch and FlyBMI.

I hope for all the passengers, the hard working staff at Flybe, and those regional airport teams that have them as their main or sole operators that they can be helped.

That article says that Flybe provide over half of UK domestic flights outside London.

While some of these flights could be replaced by train journies, they provide a lot of the flights to the Channel Islands, Scottish Islands, places like the Isle of Man, and long distance UK flights eg to northern Scotland or the far south west - at work we use them to visit the Isle of Man and also so we can go to places like Aberdeen or the Isle of Man in one day instead of 2.

With this in mind, I'm wondering if there's a bigger chance of government help, as a lot of these flights are a lot more 'necessary' - the Isle of Man for a start relies heavily on Flybe, so there needs to be these flights in place, whereas the other airlines were mostly holiday flights and there were usually several operators on any given route, and possibly overcapacity outside peak times.
