Any hints or tips?

We spent 4 days in Tangalle last year. The beaches were absolutely spectacular and largely empty. The waves were too strong for swimming (but we’re not big sea swimmers anyway so...) and you got the occasional glimpse of a sea turtle. As a PP has said Udawalawe is the closest National Park.

In terms of tips, there were more mozzies down on the south coast so take deet and plug ins. You can’t bring Sri Lankan money with you into the country so if your hotel is off the beaten track and doesn’t have an ATM, get money out beforehand.

Really sad but I used to be a Duranie as a teenager and had always wanted to go to Sri Lanka. The coastal scenes in the video look pretty much exactly what you’ll see!

Galle is lovely. Very good for wondering about and shopping. We visited local beaches. Also travelled to Yala for a safari which was well worth it
Have fun.

It's lovely. Been to Galle many year ago (pre tsunami) and loved it. Great food too. I'm heading to the capital next month but probably won't go to the south this time unless they are playing cricket

We stayed in Mirissa, about an hour away from Galle last year and loved it. Very relaxed feel the most amazing food (egg hoppers!) gentle people and scenery was spectacular. We had a chill out holiday so apart from a visit to Galle we didn't do much else but it was what we wanted to do. Loved it and hope to go back soon.

Galle has some beautiful jewellery shops where you can pick out Sri Lankan sapphires and have them made into a bespoke piece - they'll even deliver it to your hotel! Took about two/three days to do, we were only there a week.

Oh I’m so jealous. We were supposed to be going on holiday to Sri Lanka last year but had to cancel.

I hope you have a fabulous time.

Love Sri Lanka, I’d recommend leaving the resort and seeing the countryside and temples.

You’ll love it. We had a fantastic holiday there a couple of years ago, when my kids were 5 and 3. Galle is just beautiful to wander around, the beaches are lovely, and we did a safari at Uda Walawe national park that was just wonderful. You’ll love it!
The people are also super friendly, and it’s very child friendly.
You’ll have a wonderful trip!

Ah, I’m jealous. I’ve been twice, love it there. The South is quite a long journey from the airport, so be prepared for that. February is the best time to go, hot and hardly ever rains.
Take sweeties to give to the children who will crowd around you when you go out, pencils and notebooks always welcome. There’s nothing really to warn you about. The occasional person will try and fleece you, but by and large, Sri Lankans are a gentle people who are keen to be hospitable.
Have a fabulous time.
