Hotel booking - direct or not?

Booking 14 nights next summer to a hotel that I've visited before.
The hotel was part of the TC group but is now operating independently.
I was going to book direct with the hotel but I'm a but worried in case they end up going bust.
If I book through Loveholidays will I be protected if the worst happens?

I have travel insurance but it doesn't cover hotels closing.
My credit card limit won't cover the full cost of the hotel.

As long as the full cost is over a 100 you only need to spend 1p or more on your card.

£100 not £1

As long as you pay £1 on your credit card it’ll be covered by section 75.

I'll check out dial a flight, thanks.

I can't book it as a package because there are 3 of sharing the hotel room and we are all flying in from different countries and just meeting there.

Am I correct in thinking that even if I only book part of the cost on my card then they will pay out for the full cost if the worst happens

Yes, you can pay as little as one penny on your credit card and then you are covered for the entire cost as long as it is between £100 and £30k.

Have you booked your flights yet? Is the hotel available through any other package operator? Jet2 for example?

Sometimes booking separately is cheaper, sometimes it's cheaper to book as a package. Plus with a package you also get ATOl protection. I think also if you book flight and hotel through someone like Travel republic, it counts as 'package equivalent' and you still get the ATOL protection, even though not an actual package holiday.

Have you checked to see if the hotel is on booking.com?
I generally book my holidays through dial a flight, so that if anything goes wrong they deal with it. It's usually cheaper than booking direct.

Yes it's a busy hotel popular with germans and Russians so it should be ok but I'm not willing to risk losing £1700.

I might see if I can increase my credit card limit and book the deposit on my card.

Am I correct in thinking that even if I only book part of the cost on my card then they will pay out for the full cost if the worst happens?

Could you book half the hotel nights on you credit card then pay it off and book the next few nights?

Is it a busy hotel? Maybe leave the booking to nearer the time.

In my experience book the flights early and the hotels later works best.
