Where to stay in Rome

We're off to Rome with the kids in half term - I don't know the city at all and have no idea to stay. I've spent ages on Trip Advisor but that hasn't really helped.

We're looking for something about £150 a night for the four of us per night, preferably including breakfast. Could anyone d suggest an area, or even better a particular hotel? We'd like to be in the middle of things, so we can walk everywhere. Thank-you!

I'm bumping this because I'd love to know this too and I'm hoping someone will see this and know Smile

Travestere is a lovely neighbourhood.... I found it through MN actually. I travelled with my 11 yo dd so I wanted somewhere with loads of restaurants locally as I knew she would be more tired at night than in the morning...

Hotel Delle Province is lovely, 10 minute walk to the nearest station then only a few stops to the colosseum. Lots of restaurants and cafes.

Trastevere is probably a great place to be with young kids!

Worry about location more than room quality i would say. Many hotels offer breakfast on the roof terrace and it is a very lovely start to the day.

//www.hoteldelcorsoroma.com on Via Del Corso, right in the city center, within walking distance to all the major sights and Spagna metro station.

Eating breakfast in hotels isn't really a "thing" in Rome so I wouldn't make that a absolute must as it might be much nicer to eat breakfast out each day.

Thanks all - I've found a little family run b&b in Travestere. (Starts counting days)

Highly recommend the 3rd level and underground tour of the Colosseum. Book tickets in advance though! In the Colosseum they are strict about the size of bags you can take and no liquids (body sprays, full water bottles etc) are allowed in

I can't remember the name of the hotel but it was on the nationale road which was about 10 mins from the train station. Will try to remember it.

You have just reminded me of the time DP and I went backwards and forwards on the tram trying to find Trastavere. We never did succeed but did find a lovely little bar where we got quite drunk on mojitos. Happy days Smile
