We COULD be moving to America after all......

We have been trying to move to Colorado, America now for three years without success. There is a very complicated system where we have to apply for a visa to be able to move over for three years before we can apply for a permanent resident visa. DH is unable to apply for this visa until he has a definite job offer. The visas are available to apply for on 1 April each year and available to use from beginning of October each year. There are only so many available each year. For the past three years, on three seperate occasions we have been unlucky in the fact that dh has been unable to get the job offer in time to be able to get a visa. Visas ranout with a day or so last year. Sad
He has his heart set on living out there and as you imagine last year he was very down about it all and we kind of put everything on hold and even thought that the dream would never become a reality.
We have just returned from our holiday to France and dh has received an email from a company in the USA, who he has had a previous interview with, saying that they have a possible job offer for him. He has to go through a few telephone interviews first.
So, who knows, we could get there this year if things go as planned.

Sorry....someone will be around to say "it wasn't meant to be" I am sure.....I know it isn't very comforting while it is happening though.

Dh has phoned me from work. He couldn't talk properly as his boss was nearby. Said he had an e-mail from the company in USA who have said that they are going to look for a local candidate. Sad Won't know anymore until dh gets home later. Sigh - here we go again.

Dh had one telephone interview the night before last. They took him completely by surprise. He need they would want to speak to him by telephone but he thought they would tell him which night by email first. We had just got back for holiday in France and so dh was completely switched off from work and was totally unprepared. We think he did okay though. There are a few more people that want to speak to him yet.

My company has a large location in Highlands Ranch, I work with them all the time, as a matter of fact I just got off the phone with someone there! Colorado is very beautiful--good healthy lifestyle.

It's not a bad place.

I'm American, my husband is Scots, but the kids are dual nationals, so if they ever want to go, they can.

For years, I couldn't think of the place w/o crying.

Now the bittersweet's just sweet.

Hope you like it there! I didn't. I loved it.

Thanks Expat. Dh has been reading this thread too with much interest. Smile
I shall keep you in mind and may ask you some more later if and when things get moving.
I remember posting about us wanting to move over a year ago and I remember there was a mumsnetter who had a relative in Colorado also. Can't remember who it was now - shall have to dig through the archives.

I've got a good pal in Highlands Ranch, but she has no kids and never had. I owned a home in Thornton in the North, before the big boom.

Those areas have good schools in general. Columbine is in Littleton, but they tore down the library and rebuilt all the parts affected by the shooting.

Hope they've sorted out the new power station and water supplies. Those areas are far from the Foothills and mountains and dry as a bone. It's plains there.

The population boomed and so until they get that power plant up and running, there were rolling blackouts. And lots of water rationing and hosepipe bans.

Doesn't rain much anywhere in the whole state. More sunny days than San Diego.

I miss the place sometimes. Left in a hurry and left a lot of myself there. Like a loose end waiting to be tied up, me and Denver.

Lovely. Where are your friends? We liked the areas Highlands Ranch, Littleton, Cherry Hills Village and Castlerock. Do you know any of those?

I lived there for 8 years. Moved here 4 years ago. Still have close pals there. My friend tells me it's hot there just now.

Not exactly sure where we will live exactly. DH had to work there for a couple of weeks a few years ago and fell in love with it. We all went over a couple of years back to see whether or not the kids and I would like it and to see what areas we preferred. Dh loves the rocky mountains so we will be close to them. We drove through Boulder while we were there actually.
South of Denver for us. Smile
