I need to drop dh off at Heathrow in early January and would like to spend the night before in a nearby hotel. We'll have ds age 2 with us so it needs to be family friendly and ideally there'll be something fun for all to do the next day before the evening flight check-in.

I did think we might go to legoland but it's shut for the winter. Does anyone have any good ideas?

We stayed at the Radisson Edwardian three years ago and I hated it. The upgraded room was crowded with furniture, the room was stuffy and we couldn't alter the temperature etc. It was one of the worst experiences I have ever had in an hotel..

Fortunately we weren't paying. Our stay (and the posh car that took us there) was paid for the courier company who cocked up getting our passports and visas to us causing us to miss our flights to Australia.

The Renaissance is great! Formerly the Ramada. Right by the runway. Good rates and the staff are excellent, unusual for an airport hotel. If you can afford the Radisson Edwardian over the road is rather nice!

we are leaving from Heathrow in June and have dd who will be 22 months then - we are staying the night in the Holiday Inn... really reasonable.

legoland is pretty expensive and I think it might be shut that time of year(?) but spending a few hours in Windsor is always nice - feed the ducks along the river, stroll around their highstreet and you might time it to see changing of the guards. Can't help you out with a hotel though, sorry. have fun!
