could someone tell me what the Majorca Beach in Magalluf is like now?

I've looked at holidays uncovered etc. and have read all sorts of different opinions. I'm trying to book my family and my mum and dad into Magalluf-we usually stay at the Tropico-and Mum and Dad stayed at the Majorca Beach once about 3/4 years ago. Anyone been recently?

We normally stay in Palma because we have family and friends there, but booked the Tropico at MAgalluf for the reason that the complete holiday (inc flights) was cheaper than an EasyJet ticket. Although we didn't anticipated to stay but as it was much better than what we expected (and particularly far from the MIL and SIL ) we decided to stay.

Considering Magalluf and the Arenal have been referred by the locals as Sodom and Gomorr, I was expecting the place to be a ruin, full of loud-drunk-looking-for-a-shag people walking around until the early hours but in its place I found a very family oriented hotel, with a nice park and lots of activities for the children (they run some sort of nursery for kids over 3 -included in the price) and have a soft area for the under 3s which can be used for a few hours during the day. The place is still in the ?outskirts? of Magalluf so, still in a relatively quiet area.

About the noise... it all depends in the room you get, the ones facing the street or particularly, those near the reception are very loud (the hotel runs entertainment every night until around 2 am) and of course, there's also the noise from the street. We got one facing the pool and opposite the noisy area so no problem at all. Bare in mind that it is already low season so I expect it will be somewhat quiet. However, I think that going to Mallorca and not venturing outside Magalluf is a big mistake, the island is beautiful (specially the mountain towns), and contrary to the widespread perception it has a very sophisticated atmosphere (for a price, of course, although there are some small calas near Magalluf that are beautiful and almost empty, most people arrive in yachts to them but some are also reachable from the road).

The room was basic and the decoration dated, IMO not clean enough (a bit dusty under the beds etc-but I'm in Bree's league so I may be exaggerating)
It was far from being the best hotel in the world, but then we paid just about 120 per person for a week including flights, so I have no right whatsoever to complain, because for that price they could well have given us a hammock in the beach with no roof and it would have been a good price , VERY good value for money.

I stayed there in 2004 and had absolutely no complaints. My neice was Head Rep for the resort and that was one of her hotels. Apparently they are meant to be doing it up, but when my sister went back this year she said nothing had been done. She didn't stay there though, she stayed in Santa Ponza and said the hotel there was fantastic and when they called into the Majorca Beach it looked really tired and in need of an upgrade by comparison.

I think it probably depends what your expectations are. We normally camp or caravan, so to be half board in an hotel was luxury to us!
