How to apply to Uni if you have no predicted grades?

DS had a really rough time during lockdown and basically didn't bother study. He ended up with one E grade.

He's now much better and wants to retake next summer, but will be studying at home (not through college).

So does anyone know how he goes about putting in an application to Uni?

Thanks.

I would contact UCAS for more information or help.
He may be studying at home but where is he taking the exams?
You need both predicted grades and a reference. But if you already have results from 2020 or 2021 these need to be declared on the form.

He may actually be better off and going through clearing next year once he has his grades in hand. It is unlikely the school he attended would be prepared to predict higher than what he got already if he is self learning at home.

Has he got tutors for any subject? Or anyone overseeing his work?

It may be possible to apply without predicted grades, but last year I was working with a student taking A levels who was not in school or college, and she asked me to predict her grade for the subject I was working with her on. I presume she did similar with her tutors for her other subjects. So that suggests that even tho she was not in school, she needed predicted grades.
