East London University

Just wondered what thoughts were on this university. From The Times Guide and course rating it looks as those it was an up and coming university. My DD is thinking of it for physio as her lower choice option

Southampton is top ranked or near it. Why not look at all the league tables and entry requirements. Then discard any AAA!?

Sorry Oxford Brooke’s is 128 UCAS points not 40 and rank 16th for the subject.

I’m not sure if she’s limited by geography, but with those predicted grades she’s got far better choices than East London Uni even if it is as insurance. Southampton (I know it’s higher than her predicted but good to know), offer Physiotherapy at AAB and don’t stipulate Biology. Remember a lot of these universities will accept a grade or two lower on results day. Leicester uni offers a BSc Physiotherapy with Foundation yr at CCC and she meets the subject requirements.
Oxford Brooke’s offer BSc Physiotherapy at 40UCAS points and will accept Psychology as a ‘biological science’. Essex is also much better than East London.

If Essex is a BBB choice I'd choose that - it has a much better reputation overall than East London and what looks to be a good campus. Although placements could be more difficult if they are spread out across the county.

its her low insurance choice, at school they were told one aspirational and one BBB so it's her insurance . Her predicted are ABB, she's limited in choice as Pysch, Chemos and history no biology. She really wants to be a physician associate but only has UCLAN, so applied there then 4 physio but is really interested in physio. Here Physio options are UCLAN, St George's,Teeside and East London. Here BBB was one of Wolverhampton, Essex or East London.

To be honest I think, as both courses only admit about 35-45 ,she is aiming to work hard and get her grades hopefully have picked up an offer before but if not go through clearing. Just wondered if she gets East London should she go or look at clearing. So hard as not able to visit and get a feel.

Physio is one of those degrees where to some extent it doesn’t matter where you do your undergraduate training as the end result is the same. You need to look carefully at where she’ll do her placements and how’s she’s going to get there. Also who’s providing the academic content of the course? While multidisciplinary learning has value physio’s do need to nail their anatomy and physiology and poor teaching may hamper her later in her career.

Not a physio but my DH recently retrained. He went to our local not highly rated uni to do physio for childcare and convenience reasons. He got his degree but might have had a more interesting time academically if he’d been with a slightly more able cohort.

Being honest, it doesn’t have a good reputation overall. Whether it has an outstanding Physio department, I don’t know. What would be helpful is if you gave her predicted grades so that people can see if East London is the best place that matches her grades but even then, there might be other alternatives. Also, what is her first choice?

It’s ranked bottom by the Complete University Guide. Having said that, they seem to miss out a lot of courses! Eg KCL and St George’s London. So it seems very odd to me. If this is her insurance choice - why not? But there are RG universities doing this course at big teaching hospitals. What does this course offer when compared to the others?
