Hi If UCAS does not update first thing before the school opens for result is it a bad sign that the offer has been missed.
Good luck to everyone awaiting results :)

My dd has an email from her university congratulating her on gaining her place first.

I'm under the impression that UCAS usually confirms offers at around 7 am.

Furrycushion · 30/07/2018 10:17

Emails often come in from the universities over night & then UCAS updates in the morning. No significance if it updates late. All the decisions are taken in the week running up to results day.

How many days in advance (before the Thursday) do the universities know the results?

3catsandadog · 30/07/2018 10:23

I think they may hear around a week before so end of next week!

It's about a week before, I was talking to a lecturer about this recently.

I think if track hasn't updated it can be because they are still considering a slightly missed offer, or it could be just that admin has gone a bit wrong.

LoniceraJaponica · 30/07/2018 10:27

So that means if the student doesn't hear from their university they missed their grades?

NameChangedAgain18 · 30/07/2018 10:27

I think universities get the results on the Sunday before (or, at least, that used to be the case).

LoniceraJaponica · 30/07/2018 10:28

Newcastle said that they get the results 4 days before results day.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/07/2018 10:29

No, not necessarily, they may just have not uploaded it to track, or track maybe running slow. From reading student room it seems that track can be a bit unreliable in updating sometimes.

LoniceraJaponica · 30/07/2018 10:31

Phew!

janinlondon · 30/07/2018 10:57

16 August is the first thing I think about every morning and the last thing I think about at night. At this rate I may not live that long ....

3catsandadog · 30/07/2018 11:09

There should be a countdown calendar similar to an advent calendar but filled with chocolate, cake and alcohol starting from tomorrow until the 16th for parents

Universities will get the results on Sat 11 Aug. They will finalize all the decisions they can - given that they might be waiting for missing results, decisions by other institutions on students holding insurance offers, etc. - and these will then be made visible to students by UCAS on Thu 16 Aug. Universities are under an absolute embargo until results day: they must not indicate to students awaiting A-level results that they have or have not met the conditions. Things like confirming a student's accommodation before the results are published are in breach of the university's contract with UCAS and likely to get the university into big, big trouble.

Sometimes things go on beyond results day. Exam boards occasionally miss the deadlines for entering results for some A-levels (usually maths, in my experience), so that universities have to wait a few days before they know whether someone has met the conditions. Also, a lot of students who have missed the requirements will apply to exam boards for re-marks of one or more A-levels, which means the places they were offered can't be offered to anyone else who's closer to meeting the requirements until the results of the re-mark are received (as long as this is no later than 31 Aug).

TheThirdOfHerName · 30/07/2018 12:56

We're going away for ten days to try to distract us from the waiting.

TheThirdOfHerName · 30/07/2018 12:57

That's the best idea I've heard in a long time.

Lepetitpiggy · 30/07/2018 12:59

We're going away on the 17th without ds so there will either be a commiseration or massive whoopee party at our house that night !!!

janinlondon · 30/07/2018 13:00

I would like to be anaesthetized please. Until 17 August.

Skiiltan · 30/07/2018 14:27

You should worry. I have one daughter getting A-level results on the 16th and another getting GCSE results on the 23rd. Should have thought about that 17¼ years ago.

3catsandadog · 30/07/2018 14:37

Yes me too double whammy I have told some future parents to space their children 3 years apart!

I'm not sure who feels sicker in the morning when we open our eyes, me or dd. She's absolutely convinced she's not going to get the grades.

TheThirdOfHerName · 30/07/2018 14:51

Skiiltan I also have one in Y13 and one in Y11.

I'm viewing it as training for 2020, when I'll have one taking A-levels and two taking GCSEs.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/07/2018 14:59

Thanks for the info skiiltan.

The strain is starting to show here now. We'd in general been able to shove it to the back of our minds. Between this and other stuff I'm back to the middle of the night panic attacks.
