Marking strike!

DD just texted me in a panic saying she had failed an assignment (is in 1st year). Then she sent me a screen shot of the comments: "strong research, strong presentation skills and use of logical flow. Nice work". I said that didn't sound like a fail to me - then she found out that in fact everyone had 0% and it was a marking strike!

Has anyone else come across this? DD is already anxious about her course and this didn't help unless they had been told and she wasn't listening

She's feeling a bit insecure about her course anyway, and jumped to conclusions without reading the feedback - her default action was to text her mum! - before she talked to anyone else!

Boycott is suspended until January.

Oh, how scary for her!

It's odd, too ... I thought the guidelines were not to provide feedback at all? Surely providing feedback, but no mark, is just daft? Or have I misunderstood?

There is a marking boycott on at the moment, my uni (also rg), has sent several emails and it has also been on the log in screen of the my.university page.

Thanks ullen. She's had a bad dose of flu and not been in - though I suppose she should have seen an email. I'll let her know that it's well known and she's missed it, assuming that they have in fact let them know.

I've very very surprised that she didn't know about the strike. All lecturers in my institution have emailed students to let them know whether they are on strike and how they are handling work during the strike. In many cases, as in your daughter's, they are withholding marks but giving feedback on work so that students do not suffer.

The marking boycott should be suspended from tomorrow.

The student union should be able to provide advice and information to students at the specific institution.

At an RG uni (incase that makes any difference)
