Piles - not going after suppository/cream

pinky987 · 02/09/2020 16:58

In July I started getting problems with what I think are piles. Told gp who advised use wet wipes, then told nurse who prescribed scheriproct suppositories and cream. This settled it a bit but then they were back to the same feeling in about two weeks.

I’ve now used the creams and suppositories for another week and whilst improved still uncomfortable.

I don’t have constipation at all but I do have ibs which is why I think I got them as using the toilet a lot. Gp advised to eat fibre, drink water etc and I do all these things.

Gp won’t make appointment for me to be seen as they say that there is no need however i just want my bottom to stop being sore

Any advice to get rid of these?

I sympathise. I've been in agony for about 5 days. The doctor prescribed some suppositories without seeing me. I've had to call in sick today as I can barely walk. 😢

@bobisbored I’m sorry your feeling the pain to.

I have finished my prescription of suppositories now and I am not sure if the cream is making my
bottom sorer.

I have phoned the drs this morning and asked for a call back from a female dr this time in case she lets me be seen. Not that I want to show anyone my bum but I’m guessing it will be better then the pain.

I find sitting is worse then walking for me but the pain is there all the time.

Have you tried cocunut oil. It works wonder on piles. After using wipes just spread cocunut oil on piles. It soothes better than any cream. Scheriproct is a wonderful cream but you have to take sitz bath too if you have to get rid of them sooner. You can get portable sitz/bidet bowls at Amazon for cheap. Just put it on the toilet seat and fill it with warm to hot water. Add some cocunut oil and sit in the water for atleast 20 minutes. After 2-3 days the pain will go away.

@pinky987 how are you feeling?
I went to out of hours gp yesterday and they said I need surgery. I was booked in for today but was cancelled as they're too busy. No idea when it'll be done now. I'm still in agony. 😢

@bobisbored well I was still in pain on Thursday when I had finished the last lot of suppositories/cream but the gp refused to see me again as said there was nothing they could do Hmm then Friday I felt like my bottom was burning and I had a rash on my bum cheeks that was burning hot. Luckily I have just stoped using any creams and this is settling down.

I’m sorry your still I’m pain, hopefully you won’t have to wait long.

Are you sure it's piles? If the GP hasn't seen you, how can they be sure?

I have anal fissures which are agony. But they were diagnosed by the GP, I didn't know that's what it was and had been treating it as simple piles.

GP gave me some cream which did work but gave me raging headaches, so I had to stop using it, they gave me something else instead which helps but isn't as good.

I'd ask for a proper consultation. But take pain killers before you go and be ready to have a finger stuck up your bum!

I can confirm that there is no way coconut oil would make any difference at all. Though not wiping dry does help, I use an anti bacterial gel wipe called Satu, available on Amazon (I have an aversion to wet wipes).

If it is piles I have heard a bath with Epsom salts helps

@VanGoghsDog I have spoken to the gp on four different occasions and they will not see me as they say you can only go in person if you have a red flag symptom. I also wondered if it may not be a pile but can’t really tell when I have a look and. It sure what else to do.

Maybe think about how you are describing the symptoms?

With piles you tend to have painful lumps that come and go, some creams can shrink them a bit.

But if those creams don't work, or if the lumps reduce, if you get a lot of bleeding (fresh, red, blood), then it may be fissures. And it's a totally different treatment. Maybe just ask the GP if there is any chance it could be that.
(And hope the cream doesn't give you the splitting headaches like it did me, they were worse than the bottom pain!)

@pinky987 I've got some stronger painkillers from the doctor and some scheriproct cream. I'm more comfortable today, thank god.
How are you doing? X

@bobisbored I am still not feeling right. I went out today with dh and had to tell him to slow down when walking as I could feel pressure in my bum that was uncomfortable.

@pinky987 sorry you're still not feeling great. I've been looking at a website that suggests pelvic floor exercises to help. Worth a try!

@pinky987 I'm sorry this is still ongoing for you.

Mine finally settled down a couple of weeks after finishing the second lot of suppositories I was prescribed. I think they may have been escalating the soreness and radiating aching pain I was getting.

Maybe hold off using anything for a week or so and see if that helps?

Report
pinky987 · 09/09/2020 12:24

@ouchmypoorbum glad you feeling better, I’ve been off the cream/suppositories from the dr for nearly a week so maybe I just need to give time to settle as you say. Let’s hope so.

I find Sudocreme just to lubricator the exit is as good as anything!

Joining your group as my piles are horrific at the moment too, hope you do not mind Sad

I would second sudocrem or germoloid suppositories.

I am having trouble getting to see a GP too which is awful as I think someone needs to see to diagnose.

My sympathies 😊

Can you feel or see (or DH see) any external signs that suggest piles?

Not only can pain and bleeding from the bottom be a fissure, it can also be a sign of Inflammatory Bowel Disease, or even bowel cancer. I'm really concerned that you're getting the brush off from your GP without an examination.

Report
pinky987 · 09/09/2020 14:37

@dingledongle sorry that your here to. I agree I think you definitely need to be seen to get the correct diagnosis.

@Extracurricularfatigue I got dh to look and he says looks normal apart to him apart from the rash that I had then which has now gone down. I called back to speak to another gp but the just said stop using the cream if it’s not helping and that is not cancer and that was that, they said seeing me wouldn’t make a difference.

That's quite outrageous. You can't tell someone they don't have cancer or any other serious condition over the phone. Nor should you leave a patient in pain when a first treatment isn't working; you try something else.

Just to clarify, you have pain, you can feel some sort of blockage, and you're bleeding from the bottom, but you have no visible external piles and haven't been examined in person? I would call the practice manager and tell them that you have symptoms that warrant urgent attention and are not being taken seriously.

Report
pinky987 · 09/09/2020 15:18

@Extracurricularfatigue yes those are the symptoms apart from bleeding from bottom is just tiny bit on toilet paper but not that often.

I have tried two different gp’s at the practice who both say the same thing. I am looking to change practice to another so that I can be taken seriously. When I speak to the nurse she says she will book in for gp to check but then they refuse.

Please change if you can. No GP should be behaving as they are.
