He is well known for his poor behaviour towards women. Cheating, lying, gaslighting. The guy’s every bit as toxic as a certain costar of his but far less open about it.

Often seems to be the case with these types of virtue signallers. It’s all narcissism.

Yet another reason I've given up on dating and finding a life partner.

Is he? Cheating on whom? Gaslighting whom/how?

''Well, yes I prefer 'manly' men''

What does that even mean? what's a 'manly man'?

Cumberbatch seems to be a smart, articulate, kind and talented individual. A good father and husband. And someone who uses his fame to make a stand against misogyny and sexism.

What exactly isn't 'manly' about the above?

He seems like an all around great human being if you ask me...

And the evidence for all these wild claims is what exactly?

I have never seen a bad article in any of the tabloids about his life on and off the screen. He has been mega famous for years and it is likely that something would have come out in the press if any of this was true...

I remember anonymous sources in one of the gossip mags saying that the reason him and Sophie were seen arguing so much was because he wasn't pulling his weight as a dad and she 'didn't want to feel like a single parent'. Apparently he was putting his work above his three month old child if the sources are to be believed.

I'd say most rugby players are manly men.

one of the gossip mags would seem to be the pertinent phrase here.
It's hardly Johnny Depp stuff, is it? It's not even the 'cheating, lying, gaslighting' suggested on here.

Isn’t there a woman saying important things somewhere and you can go comment by ignoring what she’s said and criticising her clothes?

Wow. Abusive. Violent and toxic. Is that all you’ve got?

So you're categorising men by their physical appearance? And/or their profession/leisure pursuits? Hmm

Actually, IIRC, he played rugby at school and was considered quite handy.

In English please.

It was perfectly plain English. For some reason you're bent on deflecting the point of the thread by rather silly ad hominem attacks on BC.

(There was a bit not in English in that sentence but I'm sure you can Google it.)

@ErrolTheDragon Thx for sharing that link. He is right about toxic masculinity needing to be addressed. We need to have this conversation and not just get defensive with the not all men are bad. Of course not all men are bad or like that. But, it usually is said as a way to shut down conversation about toxic masculinity, abuse, inequality.

I did not read anything that suggested that he was singling out men with masculine builds or suggesting that there is anything wrong with being masculine. He was addressing toxic masculinity.

FWIW I have met plenty of skinny, less masculine looking men who behave in a way that indicates toxic masculinity and misogyny.

For me, there is nothing manly about treating women like objects of contempt. There is nothing manly about being terrified by the sight of your son playing with dolls or dress ups or liking sparkles or the colour pink.

Men who aren’t frightened to stand up against toxic masculinity and toxic patriarchy are manly. And it has nothing to do with their muscles or other physical attributes.

I've just watched The Power of the Dog and I must say it's somewhat changed my view of BC, even if he needs to pipe down a bit on the social commentary. He was great as cowboy struggling with dare I say toxic masculinity.

He is great in it. It’s not really fair to say he’s giving ‘social commentary’ as if he’s just talking about it out of the blue - it’s in response to and in the context of the film and his character.
