What can I do with a broken ankle?

I'm generally pretty fit and active but I've just broken my ankle and the thought of 6 weeks of nothing fills me with horror.
I'll some general weights which I have at home but can't think of anything to get my heart rate up.
Has anyone got any ideas please? Thanks

Of you are none weight bearing you will get plenty of exercise & upper body strength training getting yourself around. You need to keep your leg up as much as you can until the swelling starts to ease, usually after the first couple of weeks. When I broke mine it took me twice as long to do anything, just getting to the toilet felt like running a marathon.

What type of fracture is it? Are you in a cast?

For the first few weeks you really need to rest it and give it time to heal. After a few weeks, you can do specific exercises to get it moving/stop it from stiffening up.

You'll get idiots on here who will say they ran a marathon a week after breaking their ankle. Don't listen to them. I know someone who broke their leg a few years ago who is now confined to a wheelchair and suffers with chronic pain.

a couple of weeks of rest is vital for your bone(s) to heal properly.
elevation, ice, rest
you will not lose much condition but you can cause damage if you start too early.

after a couple of weeks you can start very slowly. ideally together with a physio.

if your plaster is only up to the knee, why not hire a knee scooter? DH is in the same position currently and he has found his foot scooter a good way of getting out and about.

Sorry for repeat posting - this has got me thinking because it would drive me mad too!

How about a HIIT workout, 45s on 15s off or whatever intervals suit you, of things like: press ups on your knees, plank, Russian twists, shoulder press, chest press, bicep curl, crunch, bicycle kicks

Do they have ropes in your gym? Battle ropes or the one you pull down on a pulley? They are good upper body based cardio

I’ve always been pretty good on crutches and can get out for a walk when I have them. I appreciate that’s not a proper cardio session but it’s something to stop you feeling so cooped up.

What have you got in terms of a cast and crutches?

Thank you. I might see if local gym has one of those. I can weight lift but will have to be seated.

My gym has those bikes that you pedal with your arms, I can't think of any other cardio you can do with a broken ankle but presumably you can still weight lift?
