Have I left it too late?

I'm feeling very low and anxious about this so please be gentle.

For want of a better phrase, I've let myself go. Lockdown has not been kind and I'm not only overweight but very unfit. I get out of breath easily, I have to energy. My get up and go has got up and gone.

So what now. Is it possible to get it back? It feels not, even though common sense tells me it's never too late.

I have 2.5 stones to lose and I loathe going out for a walk... lockdown has spoilt that completely.

It's never to late to get started. It's better to shift 2.5 stone now, than 4 stone further down the line. Download the couch to 5k app and give it a try. You will feel like a new person by the end of it. Good luck Smile

Of COURSE it's not too late - it's never too late to make healthy choices - you can only do yourself good. I have piled on the pounds since lockdown #3 but am on a mission to loose weight and get healthier.

Would a challenge work? - like walk/run so many KM's/Miles in March/Apri/May

That's what gets me going out - I have the Strava app (free) and track my kms running each month - you can sign up to a goal or just track for yourself. See what you can do in a week, then try to beat it the next week?

Our bodies are incredible machines, and it is never too late, especially not for you. If you commit yourself, you can achieve a healthy body.

Tough pregnancies/ births have caused me twice to rebuild my fitness from walking to the end ogf the cul-de-sac and back and build it up a bit each day into miles.

Little and often. Start low impact. Mr Motivator does 12min videos that are easy to pace throughand are good for building strength and motion through more than just walking. It's normal to feel tired as you build up, and it doesn't take long to get going and feel the difference.

It's not too late - I have about 3 stone to lose and I'm 52 very soon. I bought myself an exercise bike for Christmas and although I'm very unfit it's something I can do without anyone seeing me which was what was holding me back before. I live in a small village and don't want the whole place to know what I'm up to.

The other thing that has really helped is my family are on board. They know I don't like people watching so they leave me to it but do ask how I'm doing every day.

So definitely go for it. I may not be doing much but it's 20 minutes each day (at the moment) that I'm not sitting down doing nothing.

It’s never too late! I did c25k last year and joined a few Facebook groups, it’s so inspiring to see people in their 60s and 70s, and people carrying a lot more weight than you learning to run. The app takes you very, very slowly from the couch to running for 30 minutes non stop. It really works. The hardest step is the first step out of the door, and the first ten minutes are harder than the last ten minutes. Give yourself a gentle push and see what happens! Good luck 🙂
