Hypoglyceamia (glycogen crash) 24 hours after run

I nearly fainted at work today, lost my footing and tbe world went black , also really felt like I was going to vomit.

Yesterday morning I ran 17k on an empty stomach (not unusual for me) came home and had a slice of cake. Later went out for a late lunch which although delicious was a bit carb-lite (meat with vegetables, no potatoes and a creamy dessert). I didn't feel hungry yesterday evening or this morning. But had this funny turn just as I was arriving at work. Could it have been glycogen depletion so long after the run ? Feel a bit better now (obviously have eaten) but wondering does there have to be another cause ?

I'm the same. I generally do all long runs "fasted", simply because I run early and feel sick if I go too soon after eating.

The exception is when I get into the very long runs on marathon training. Anything above around 18 miles, I do try and eat first as I get dizzy otherwise.

IME most distance runners I know are the same. We'll have big dinners the night before, but wouldn't occur to me and my running buddies to eat before a standard long run.

Well I feel fine now, but have tried to eat more regularly all week. I go out first thing so difficult to eat first.

Closer to 11 miles and hats off to anyone who can run that's distance without food! it doesn't sound like you ate much for the day, and a lot of your calories will have been from the cake and dessert so sugary rather than nutritious food. Have you had your blood pressure checked?

Have a read of this www.triathlete.com/2019/09/nutrition/ask-stacy-fasted-training-avoiding-gi-distress-and-managing-carb-intake_382864 - Dr Stacy Sims who specialises in nutrition for female endurance athletes explains how fasted training is a good idea for young men but not women. Her book Roar is excellent and full of good advice.

Doubt it - 17k is only what, 9 miles? Surely cake, and lunch, and dessert, would be enough to fuel you up after that. Unless the distance and/or speed was significantly out of your comfort zone, I'd think it's something else?
