Chest pain while running, stitch, heart issue?

Hi, i really like running but have had to stop because of chest pain that i get most of the time during a run.

It starts like a stitch under my ribs on my right side. if i continue running is slowly spreads upwards into my shoulder with a tight feeling. Sometimes is i open up my chest and take deep breaths i can slow it down or hold it off but not often. If i stop it will fade after a minute or two. It usually hits at the same time in the run about 15/20 minutes in.

I have no known health conditions (other then being unfit and slightly overweight) and am a 31 year old female. i have had this for at least 5 years or so. it only seems to effect me when i do very energetic and high impact cardio.

I used to do boxing for fitness and would end the session soaking in sweat but no symptoms, cycling is fine as is swimming. It only seems to be the case with running but it is possible that i just haven't been working as hard with the other stuff.

I have not had it affect any other part of my life which is perhaps why i have not looked into it further it has only occured to me recently that it may be something serious as a friend was diagnosed with severe angina at 35 and some of the symptoms match, am i being paranoid?

Anyone else had a stitch like this? if so what would you recommend to get rid of it? I have tried avoiding food before a work out, warming up for longer.

It sounds like my experiences of stitches, and you don't sound like you're high risk for more serious health issues (that is not a medical opinion!)

For a stitch, ease off the pace, take slow and deep breaths. Reducing tension by circling the arms/ shoulders can help too. It is a normal stage of learning to run and will pass as your body gets more used to the impact.

I used to get this. I just needed a better sports bra!
