IUI - buddies, tips or words of wisdom?

Hi all!

My partner and I (same sex couple) are about to start our first round of stimulated IUI. I’m going for my baseline scan tomorrow and will start medication I think over the next few days too. Absolutely dreading injecting myself!

I’ve been doing everything I’ve read about like no booze, no caffeine, eating well, exercising and also the other stuff like acupuncture and hot baths etc. Any other tips?!

I’m also struggling to find a happy medium between positivity and pragmatism... I want to be positive and tell myself it will work but equally not set myself up for a fall (the success rate is only 29%!).

Is anyone else going through the same thing?

@BananaHammock23 hi. I am on Burserelin, Gonal F and I will have Ovitrelle 36 hours before insemination. I think the most important thing about going through it all is staying relaxed and being realistic. Telling yourself that it is okay when you don't get the result you want makes the blow a little easier to deal with. And as my wife keeps saying. It will happen when it is meant to happen.

Hey @Tasha1607 - that's good! I've been a bit worried about the procedure after hearing from friends who've had it. Did you have stimulated? We're due to start in 10 days- ish with next cycle after a false start last month thanks to a hiding ovary

I am on my second round of IUI. It ain’t as bad as what they say. But such a quick procedure from start of your period to the insemination. Just the 2WW is the worst

Good luck with it! I had IUI, though non medicated. It luckily worked first time, I'm 35.

Thanks @BuffyFanForever - how many rounds of IUI did you have before moving on to IVF if you don’t mind me asking? I’m 29 so have pretty good chances with IUI but lots of friends have said if they could go back in time they wouldn’t bother and would go straight for IVF.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you both - I hear the 2WW is the worst part of all. Really hope you get a BFP at the end of it to make it all worth while!

Just wanted to say a big good luck! My Wife and I had IUIs but ended up moving to ivf and are in 2WW now. The injections really weren’t too bad! Xx
