You need to get a blood ketone meter going forward. It gives a much clearer and accurate idea of what your ketone levels are at that moment in time, and how effectively your dose corrections are working.

So pleased to hear you're doing well OP.
Going forward maybe take some time to reflect- what causative factors can you identify in hindsight?
Go back to basics- how is your injection technique?
Any issues with sites?
Are you effectively carb counting?
Is your insulin timing and concordance correct?

Brush up on the sick day rules, get a blood ketone meter (you should be able to get this from the DSN team in your area) get a face to face appointment with your DSN too.

🌸🌸🌸

Causative factor is very clear, I forgot my insulin on a weekend trip. I'd try to get an emergency prescription sent next time but there doesn't seem any emergency service for diabetics in Manchester unless you phone 111.

Thank you for your advice though
Appreciated

Update. I got my ketone down at home and could even manage some food so did manage to get better without attending hospital.

Maybe a risk you wouldn't personally take but I've had proper KDA before (3days icu) and had it got worse I would have gone in for sure.

That time I couldn't hold down any fluids at all but this time knowing fluid/ insulin can get it down in the early stages I wanted to give that a chance

Diabetic here. With support you may be able to deal with at home. However, your mistakes indicate a clear level of confusion and blurred vision suggests greater impairment than your stats suggest. Always suggest you veer on the side of caution. Don’t take risks with your life. If unsure call 999 not 111.Hope you continue to get better. Please learn from what has happened this time- perhaps ask for an online course to refresh you basic knowledge eg DAFNE or BERTIE

Sorry for spelling errors confused and discoordinated too

That in itself is a cause for concern, if you have sickness, erratic blood sugar and ketones with diabetes,

I'm so pleased to read that.
Check BG regularly, and keep in mind the sick day rules above.
If you don't have anyone there IRL you really need too.

Call an ambulance now. DKA is serious. It doesn't matter about your BG number as that's not indicative of ketones. Wee strips are not accurate - urine is hours old - and you've no blood ketone meter. You need to be in A&E.

Are you managing to keep anything down?
Are you taking anything else for your diabetes? Any orals?
When did you last correct?
If you're not feeling confident re managing (understandably!) definitely get some support

OK I'll phone 11q. Medical advice online is that if it goes over 1.5 to go to hospital so I'll see what they say
