How many casual clothes does a school child need?

Dd starts school in Sept. How many non-school outfits do you need for a child that wears uniform five days a week? Trying to keep costs to a minimum as there are so many school clothes to buy! Thanks for any advice.

The problem is the holidays. You need to be able to cover the half terms and Christmas/Easter.
So, while they are at school, a couple of sets is fine for weekends. You need to work out how many you need for a week of half term.
So, in reality, not many less than current, but they don't get the same level of use Sad

I have play clothes for after school. I find school uniform gets wrecked if used in the evening.

Not many! My DC wear school uniform until bedtime and it survives even though we play football in the garden or go to the park. It rarely lasts for a second day so we do have four sets of most things.
At the weekends, both DC have an activity on Saturday which involves a uniform/kit and ideally as they're lazy will stay in that for the rest of the day. I tend to make them change but, if I didn't, it would only be on a Sunday that they'd be in their own clothes and, if we're at home and not having friends over, they often just wear pants.
As a PP said, you do need more for school holidays but a couple of pairs of jeans and a few t-shirts and having the facilities to wash & dry clothes quickly & easily means that that should be sufficient. Friends whose DC are into clothes so have more hit neither of mine are bothered and see anything other than pants at home as over the top.

My child changes after school into old clothes. So that school uniform only two skirts, three shirts, two jumpers , two summer dresses and one set PE.
Then you need a selection of weekend and holidays it depends how messy your child gets and whether they can wear an outfit twice. So a bit less than pre school. I usually buy in sales or second hand or sometimes get given second hand. There is about 13 weeks holidays a year plus weekends the longest of course in the summer

We have nearly 7 yo b/g twins. When they were little we had far too many clothes that never got worn.

We do washing every day so this might be different for some. They've been at school since they were 3, but only wear uniform (tracksuit) 1 day a week. The rest of the time it's casual clothes.

3 jeans
3 shorts
2 hoodies
4 t-shirts

I buy on ebay, always look at sellers other items, that way you only pay one lot of postage, and they often sell a few things in the same size.

Oh and invest in some iron on knee patches. DD is a nightmare for going through the knees, knee patches on jeans make them last loads longer.
