Electric based home heating

Hi all
Looking at a new build property which has electric heating system throughout. Does anyone here have this set up? How much roughly does it cost? It's a 3 bed detached home, 2 occupants.

Rural?
We had electric heating with storage rads and it costs a fortune. It wasn’t unusual to use 70 units overnight and we only had three working rads.

We rent a house with electric storage heating and it’s awful. Costs a fortune and it wasn’t warm when you actually need it. Last winter we were freezing, so much so we are moving this year just because of the heating situation.

Everything moggy said. They are a disaster.

Yes it’s rural. There’s a few thermostats throughout the house in various rooms. How much roughly would it cost do you think?

Don't do it. We rented a house with electric heating. Two bedroom and each quarter in winter, our bill was £400. We did have to keep the heating on a lot, though, cos we have a kid, but it's still more than I've ever paid before.

If you go on moneysavingexpert there are some good threads on this that should come up on a google search. But basically so expensive a lot of people cant afford to use their heating at all....

Dhs colleague lived in a house a few doors down from us. £500 a month gas delivery, £300 a month in electric. 5 bed detached.
It gets so much colder rurally because of the open fields, less housing throwing out heat, the wind chill factor.

70 units a night wpuld be 3 2kw heaters running for ten hours plus.
ask size of heaters, tot up. ask what is connected to economy 7, what is storage heaters, do the sums. also what is the epc? should be good in a new build unless stupid design - open plan, huge windows etc.

Never ever ever!! Bad idea!

I don't believe it is storage heating. Would need to double check if we get allocated the property. It is electric central heating. There's a unit outside and a very technical looking boiler inside. Radiators in the rooms. There's a few thermostats. One in hallway, one in master bedroom and one in front room so you can adjust each room.

Thanks all. Sorry I'm very new to all this! - first house

ask the builders what they have put in.
remember all electric heaters have the same efficiency. Do not be taken in by talk of magical German engineering. Even the Germans cannot override the laws of physics!
again - what does the EPC say?

I'll end this thread now as we didn't get an allocation on that property but thanks for all the help - something to keep in mind for the rest of our home hunt!
