Places for a very small book launch in London?

This is my first book (YA romance, with a bit of fantasy). I'll publish it independently in the next few months, and will sell it online and on Amazon (ebook).

The book is not in English, so I expect most of it will be sold back home, but there are lots of people who speak the language here in London and I have quite a few friends around who might be interested in meeting and buying a copy (as friends do).

So, a few of these friends suggested I make a small book launch, and I'm considering it. My first idea was to do it in a function room in a pub in Central London.

I could also do it in a small, independent bookstore (but I'll sell the books myself, so I assume they won't like the space to be used for that).

Another friend suggested to just use the space somewhere like the South Bank Centre and invite everyone.

I would like to offer something, like wine (as long as I could buy the wine in Tesco, and not paying the price a pub would charge for a bottle...). I have nearly no budget and expect just a few people.

Any ideas? Thanks a lot!

southeastdweller I'm coming to the conclusion that I won't be able to provide any drinks... That makes finding a place slightly easier.

Ontopofthesunset you're absolutely right! It's a long shot but I must ask, at least :)

It might sound ridiculous, but have you thought of contacting the Brazilian Embassy? They have a very active cultural section and are interested in promoting Brazilian art in the UK.

Maybe the library? I don't know if they've had book launches there before but they've had single nights. Or the Ritzy next door, but they may want to supply the drinks and insist on a minimum spend. I can't think of anywhere in town that would be happy for you and some friends to drink in their space with you supplying the booze, not them - sorry!

Maybe you could do it in a park and have a picnic theme, if the weather's good?

Well, the launch is for Brazilians, you were spot on :)

However, my Brazilian friends live all over London, that's why I thought of a central place that people could drop by after work (and most people work in central London). Brixton might be a good idea, do you know any good venue in there?

Is there an area where a lot of people who're from the country where the book's based live in London, like Brazilians in Stockwell/Brixton, for example?
