Short Story Competitions

I'm just starting to submit to short story competitions but don't know much about them, in terms of the most prestigious, the ones that give the best feedback, the ones that are to be avoided at all costs...

Any MN experiences and advice would be very welcome!

TIA

Also try Mslexia. Its a great one. Just for woman writers.

I used to do Costa and Bridport (never got shortlisted...stories disappeared into a black hole!) but i heard the Bristol short story and Fish were good too. Check out the back of the writers and artist's year book for a long list!

I've only done the Bridport First Novel awards, but the short story prize is prestigious with a good prize pot and decent judges.
