Cat litter

Not huge in the scheme of things but I have a cat who will only go to the loo indoors and on wood pellets. Aka Fussy

I ordered 1 bag of litter from pets at home on Monday and the order has just been cancelled and refunded

Amazon are no longer doing prime delivery on cat litter and most of it is all gone anyway. I did buy a small 5l bag which was £5.99 but doing it this way is unaffordable (5l is so paltry when 30l is £7.49 from Pets at home)

None of my local shops or supermarkets have any either. It is all gone

Does anyone have any ideas? I am willing to buy a different brand or type but there is nothing

I have emailed back Pets at Home asking for 1 bag of absolutely anything!

I am an NHS worker working from home organising front line staff.

Cat litter is available on Amazon. £11.99 for 30L wood pellet. I've just ordered some. Delivery between 26-31 March.

Lots of different types available and cat food too.

If you know anybody with an open fire/woodburner ask for their ash. It's great as a base layer in the litter trays and it as an added bonus it is free.

Also if you google wood pellets fuel cat litter, it appears that the wood fuel pellet suppliers also sell cat litter (I have no idea if they're the same or if the fuel version is safe for cats, but they will) and it also appears that they claim they're cheaper than shop cat litter and you might be able to find a local supplier or get someone to deliver some to you.

I would look into this more myself, but I mainly need litter for foster kittens and the pellets are often uncomfortable on tiny paws.

Can you get hold of sawdust or wood chippings, often sold as small pet bedding? Would the cat go on that - the pellets turn into sawdust in my experience anyway.

Or aren't the pellets also sold as fuel and if it's effectively the same thing, can you use those instead, assuming there's no additives or other hazards that make them unsuitable. Maybe garages will have them?

I've told my fussy cats that they're going to have to eat all the backlog of food that we've built up caused by them suddenly refusing to eat something we have in, usually immediately after a bulk order of it has just arrived from Zooplus Hmm.

Ask a neighbour or on facebook local groups (there’s a load of Covid 19 response groups) ? They may be able to visit a local pet shop (if still open) or add some to an online delivery order they are due.

Problem is I will order and then it just takes ages to pick and pack then it’s cancelled! I will keep trying

Use your remaining wood cat litter to scatter on top of what you're moving them to, to help them get used to it.

I didn’t think of sand. Sand is a great idea thanks

Ripped up paper might be a good one actually

I’m going to try to get out later, problem is I am supposed to be working, not looking for bloody cat litter and I am social distancing as I am asthmatic so trying not to traipse round all the shops! I can’t win
Also running out of loo roll as well and have no meat (except cat food which I don’t fancy eating) so I will need all kinds of wacky ideas on all these fronts 😂

Worst case scenario you can use regular sand

Have you a garden? Could you try a tray of soil in an emergency?
Or ripped up paper?
