After school clubs - do you want a refund?

If your child does a sport/club & it has been cancelled due to the virus are you asking for money back for cancelled lessons?
To give the full picture it’s 2 sessions at £7.60 per session, paid before xmas, small business that is having to stop all work,

Not after school clubs but we've paid in advance for the term for all our baby classes (massage, music, first aid etc) and not asking for a refund. At some point they will either be rescheduled or go online hopefully but the providers are all small businesses and as we are not losing any money as yet (I'm on mat leave anyway and DH is WFH) I can take the hit.

I don't know if it would be different if we lost our income and had to find every penny to make ends meet.

I also offered to pay for swimming lessons even though they are off to secure our place and ensure the provider comes back after this. But as I said - easier for us as we are in a position to do so currently. If not everyone is it must be difficult.

No! That's someone's paycheck! The extra curricular classes I run are going ahead via Skype from my home. We're continuing to pay for DS' sport. It's a chain, someone somewhere won't get paid. We're not high earners and the future once this has died down is a little uncertain (a lot!) but I want to continue to support others as I hope I shall be supported.

No, I wouldn't expect a refund. No one expected this . Whatever I've paid to date ( or in advance ) I wouldn't expect to be returned to me.
However, if I'm paying monthly for something, I would stop payments for now.
I think that's only fair .

I can understand both sides. But it should depend on the ts and Cs. Most in my experience, have a clause that says no refund or just the opportunity to move missed sessions to an alternative date and coronavirus looks like it would be well outside of that.

I'm going to pay because DD loves it and l want it to continue. Plus it's helping to feed someone and keep a roof over their head.

We haven't been actively asking for refunds for anything (aftercare, kids activities, theatre tickets, B&B booking). Some have already automatically processed refunds, but I don't plan on chasing those that don't, they are all in a difficult place right now. However our household income is unaffected, at least for now. If I had lost my job then I guess I would be trying to recoup every penny I could to try and protect my family. There aren't any winners here sadly.

Ours charges in arrears, so I'd imagine they'll just charge up until tomorrow.

If you can afford it because you are still earning whilst working from home then don't demand a refund. Clubs etc are usually small businesses. They won't get financial help in any useful
capacity, insurance isn't worth a damned thing for most of us.

If you can afford it then leave the £10 or whatever. It's an investment in ensuring the business is still there for your child to return to.

Thanks for the answers so far, I work for the sports provider & going by the emails I’ve had today the answers here are not the norm.
I’m quite surprised by the attitude of a lot of our customers, some of whom have been with us for years.

I don't think we can expect refunds. This is others livelihood.
My kids are at private schools and we still have to pay the school fees. If we don't, there won't be a school...

No the classes we go to say we will get credits to use when service is resumed, I think in this economic climate it’s very unreasonable to expect refunds

We are continuing to pay for extra curricular activities but neither dh or I are losing income. The activities are attempting to provide some online content to replace their classes so we will be grateful for the input for activities at home for them.
