Dentist appointment tomorrow

Would you attend a non-emergency dentist appointment? I expected to have had a cancellation message from them but instead received a confirmation of my appointment.

I thought dentists would follow NHS guidelines re. social distancing - ie. not seeing patients unless an emergency?

Bugger! I woke up with a scratchy throat which on further investigation is red and slightly spotty. Cancelled it for now. Receptionist offered me an appointment in a week's time though, even though guidelines are to self-isolate for 2 weeks after symptoms appear.

some variation, it seems, re driling. Just hoping I won't need any.
I'd hate to wait for emergency as that's when the grim pain strikes.

I can only really speak for Scotland, but official guidance landed in our inboxes this morning saying to reduce drilling unless emergency, effective immediately. I know Wales the same. Not sure re England and NI have had confirmation yet. Every region may be slightly different.

Not all dentists have stopped drilling. Mine have booked me in for work on a root canal in a few weeks.
It will probably be cancelled but at the moment, they are definitely still drilling.

I got a filling Monday and have another scheduled for next week. It's probably one of the most hygienic places. The waiting room is where you need to stay apart and avoid touching your face and wash hands as soon as possible.
If you can go to the store you can certainly go to the dentist.

It's a minefield. And we are all going to suffer great financial loss. But hopefully bounce back eventually. Crazy times. Trust your dentists judgement

I cancelled my appointment last Tuesday,it was for a filling,decided as I am not in pain to postpone it.

I would only go in an Emergency at this present time.

earlydays oh no, can't use drills! but that's the majority of treatments, I'm guessing. What if an examination shows that someone needs a filling (I'm due for a chek next week)? if left untreated, surely can lead to acute pain or even losing that tooth?

I seen the orthodontist today, all staff in masks, not allowed to rinse, they were told early hours of the morning to close and were closing as of tomorrow for the foreseeable

I went to see the hygienist today, they called me yesterday to make sure I wasn't ill and had me use an anti septic rinse before treatment.

I'm a dentist. It depends what the appointment is for.
We can't really use air/water spray, drills or scalers any more as they produce aerosol sprays.
So a simple denture appointment, examination, hand scale, simple extraction or crown fit would be ok.
Emergencies obviously still ok as well.

Dental surgeries have the highest level of infection control I know. Sterilised instruments, spotless rooms, excellent personal hygiene and behaviours.

Dd has an orthodontist appt on Friday, unless they choose to cancel it or we become ill, we will go and ensure we keep to distance and hygiene measures.

I went today. So many people had cancelled that there was only me and another woman there.
The dentist had a mask on for the duration.

I had a confirmation phone call of mine this morning. Then once wales had declared schools shit this afternoon I had another call to cancel. If you are in uk they might have shut by the time Boris announced England closures

I think dentist will be fine. They wear masks anyway and I’m sure they’re following good hygiene practices
