Covid

Can you talk this through with me? Wedding plans.

We were due to get married in 8.5 weeks. It's all planned, all paid for. Fairly small, 40 guests. We have insurance, but it only covers us if either of us get coronavirus, or if the venue cancels... We visited the venue yesterday and they have cancelled all other events, but not weddings, they will continue as contracted and they are not allowing events to be postponed at the moment. We run the risk that if we wait until they will, the government will have banned gatherings and we'll lose all the money.

We have some friends urging us to go ahead. Fiancé's parents wouldn't be able to attend if we did. They are heartbroken. Fiancé doesn't want to postpone really, although he's okay with cancelling and going to a registry office just the two of us, if we can sort that...

Do we send a message out now and cancel? Phone the insurer - but risk that they might think that we're just choosing to cancel, which isn't covered? Do a bit of a poll of guests and see what people think? I have no idea. We stand to lose so much money if we wait and see...

Given the shortage of testing, how would they know if you got coronavirus?

How will you get your money back if you cancel now?
We have the same scenario insurance wise.

I think personally i would cancel, and then get married in the registry office. you could facetime your dh's parents in the office so they feel part of the ceremony. I just think that its too risky to lose all the money, if the government do send the country into lockdown or ban events over 10 people etc. would it be at all possible for you to get married in the office but then have a party when this is all over?
