First experience of Corona hysteria

Shopping in posh London suburb today - we are buying some bits in Paperchase. Lady comes in with adorable dog. Dog approaches 3 customers who make a move to pat the friendly dog. Lady flips out complaining that the dog needs walked, and has been bothered by 7 people and that we are all putting her elderly parents at risk (they are not with her). We point out that if she's that concerned she should be walking the dog on the nearby common rather than paper chase and she isn't the exclusive owner of elderly parents. Woman storms out leaving the customers in an uproar. Is this the beginning of Corona related hysteria - are people starting to lose the plot. Is there a risk of dog related super spreading?

I do not own a dog. But I can only imagine that people who insist upon stroking a stranger's dog without permission are just as irritating as the (minority of) dog owners who believe everyone is interested in making 'friends' with their dog. 'Oh it's fine, she's just being FRIENDLY!!!'

And yes as others have suggested, I don’t want to stop and talk and be approached by people right now. But I need to walk my dog.
People don’t take the hint when you try to keep walking or move the dog away either.

I’m not sure what incredibly vital things this lady had to do in paper chase though.

But also people keep approaching my dog to stroke it (no matter where we are!)
She’s scared anyway so I try to say no, or stand between them
But now they’re wiping their dirty Possibly infected hands on my dog / me in an effort to get to her, after we all know not to be shaking hands with each other etc

It is really annoying.

The dog could be a biter, yes, and I never tough other people a dogs...but why did she take it into Paperchase? It's not the done thing around here (Midlands)

I think people should keep a distance to each other, so if they approach the dog they are also approaching her and if she has more than... Say 10 people approaching her in just one shopping trip. Then she could indeed be at risk.

Also the dog could be a biter. Generally people should ask before touching anyone or anyone's property.

I wouldn’t touch a dog regardless if it came to me or not. I’m happy saying cute dog and leaving it at that while also hoping it doesn’t decide to pee on the floor. I’d be more annoyed by the dog touching me and the owner not doing a thing.

Yes that’s right but it was the dog that was approaching the customers rather than the other way round
