We have a running joke in our family that we’ve bought it since we all got ill a couple of weeks ago. I would imagine that most people who haven’t got a bad case wont be appearing in the public eye just as media attention on Italy has been focused on the worst affected regions and the rest of the country has been largely ignored.

I think but may have misremembered, that he was one of the original ski chalet cases.

There is a story on the BBC from a guy who has type one diabetes. He said it was ok and he has felt worse with flu.

People who had mild cases won't have been tested. The worry (even on the 'crazy' thread, is the impact on wider society more than on individuals. Most people will get it, most won't feel too bad. The proportion of people who will be seriously ill is is not huge, but the number of people seriously ill will be huge. That's the problem.

On the crazy thread people who described their symptoms as mild (eg Tom Hanks) we’re called irresponsible for not taking the we’re all going to suffer horribly then die line.

Lots of high profile people have been tested now OP so I’m sure you can watch their recoveries. Most won’t be in the UK because we will only be testing people requiring hospital treatment!

If you lived through the blitz you are EXACTLY the person who should be worried.

I agree though. We are all sick at home. Possibly with the virus. I occasionally feel awful but am mostly just grotty. I don’t know how to tell when we’re “better” though.

Well, the very mild cases didn’t realise they had it, OP, so aren’t going to say anything more than “I had a bit of a cough last week”!
The incessant news coverage seems to be fuelling anxiety out of all proportion in healthy young adults who have a 99.8% chance of surviving the virus, even assuming they catch it.
The young generation are not used to epidemics- they’ve grown up in an era of immunisations and antibiotics, and this new virus perhaps frightens them.
I’m old enough to have lived through epidemics of polio, measles, Asian flu, and even a smallpox outbreak.
There was nothing like this level of fear and navel gazing at the time.
I think a population who had coped with WW2 and the blitz were maybe more resilient about coping with viruses?
Time for everyone to get a grip and focus on the practicalities of getting through this. Focus your energies on helping your family and any elderly or at risk neighbours, and observe the handwashing and isolation rules as appropriate. We are not looking at the apocalypse here!

Tom Hanks has come out and said that today they don't even feel very unwell even though they have got it. I love that man
