Anyone else's DC got "flu-like symptoms"? Are we supposed to do something? Ring 111?

DS1 is 17 and at sixth form college. He's got a dry cough, temperature, chills/muscle aches and a bit short of breath. It's probably a bad cold or flu. We're wondering whether we're supposed to keep him away from others, or call 111? Normally he'd just tank up on lemsip and go into college. The government's advice on self-isolation etc is not terribly coherent, is it?

Does your GP do an e-consult or telephone appointment? I would do one of those.

No idea if any of his classmates or teaching staff have, but we have to presume otherwise. I'm treating it as though it's a cold ...

Gp surgery near me doesn’t seem concerned about anyone with the symptoms as long as you’ve not travelled back from any of the list of countries.... I’ve got the same symptoms but have just been told it’s viral, no other tests done just the usual stay hydrated and rest

I agree, it's such a fat moving situation but given the number of confirmed cases in the Uk j would call 111 and then your GP for advice and keep him at home for now while you get more advice, and self isolate

I’d ring 111 and follow latest advice of keeping him isolated ie not going in to college/out the house with mild symptoms.

With those symptoms I would use the 111 online checker first. It will tell you what to do. You will probably need to do the second check too, unless he's been in contact with someone with it or been to any of the listed countries. The final check will give you advice on what to do.

With those symptoms, if you think it is a possibility I would get him to stay home if at all possible. Ask college to send work home if able.

That NHS quiz is insane. It basically asks for travel history and then says "as you haven't travelled to a place with an outbreak/been in contact with a confirmed case, you don't need to be checked".

Surely this is bullshit? Two deaths today of people who caught it in the UK
