Covid

Lots of “needless to say”s but anyone quite like idea of quarantine?

Bringringbring12 · 08/03/2020 17:23

CDC say maximum quarantine period is 14 days.

Me and the children (9 and 7), chilling out an home, pottering, catching up on lots of jobs around the house, some school work, board games, films, yoga at home, runs around the garden and children on trampoline etc

I have lots of lovely food for two weeks

As I say lots of “needless to say”s that I won’t list here.... but really, 2 weeks at home, kind of appealing!

Woke up this morning and remembered we were in lockdown. I know nothing much has changed since yesterday but it feels worse. Can't wait for this to end.

* Some people who have self-isolated have found it useful to re-connect with a hobby or learn a new skill through an online course.*

Interesting.

On the government website about self isolation

Apologies all. I think I probably over reacted because I'm feeling anxious about lack of work. There's no harm in thinking about what nice things you could do. Sorry!

Been stuck at home the last few days with me and the toddler having a nasty cold and it's been horrid, he is miserable which makes me miserable. So no.

But two weeks quarantined all by myself would be bliss

I agree unlucky, although i'd love to be able to take time out and self isolate, theres bugger all 'sick pay' for those like me who are self employed!

Report
unluckyagain · 09/03/2020 18:47

But I'll step away as my view is different to others. I think it's very different if you're worried sick because you know if you're quarantined you won't be earning any money.

Why, unlucky?

Because frankly I'm confused. People keep being told, all over MN, to self-isolate. There are entire threads wondering why schools aren't shut, why people are going out to concerts, football matches, travelling on the tube etc. Asking why people aren't working from home when they 'could do'. Suggesting that those who don't take those measures when they could do are being selfish and putting others at risk.

And yet, when a thread pops up saying, 'well actually, a couple of weeks self-isolation would probably be ok, we'd probably manage alright and I'm going to try and find a positive in it' - apparently that's 'offensive'? And people should be 'ashamed'?

God, MN is a tiring place sometimes.

@KarenTookTheKids That's what annual leave is for. I just don't think it's an amusing topic at all.

Unlucky, it is simply wistful thinking about having two weeks off, a bit like benefiting from a snow day. No one is actually saying they are happy about the situation, simply trying to take time out to think positively.

The more I think about this thread the more I really think it's offensive. Those of you saying you wouldn't mind should be utterly ashamed.

So long as I get paid ... I'd be quite happy. I want to try toilet-training our ASD/SLD son this summer; if we have to spend a fortnight at home due to Covid-19 then my plans will simply move forwards. DH can go into his shed and play with wood and tools for two weeks.

I would love two weeks at home to catch up with stuff and the kids would be over the moon to be off school. I would paint the fences (
we have a large very private garden, not near any neighbours). I am studying and have lots of work I need to do for that. I would do an hour or two a day of school work with the Dc and play a few games, then let them do whatever they want. I actually think it would do us a lot of good.

Back to the real world...... not going to happen as DH and I would only be able to stay off if we were sick/likely to become sick due to our jobs (midwife/police officer). Also I would hate to not be able to visit my family, I see them several times a week. I can dream though!

Nice thread op, most posters have understood where you were going with it.

I like the idea of self isolation from DH to be honest!

I was gonna start the same thread, OP, but knew the fun sponges would be out with their hatchets raised.

That's why she added 'needless to say'!!

Rocky The OP was very clear that this thread carries a lot of caveats. This isn't the place for the doom and gloom

Report

DH and I were having this conversation earlier. As long as we knew it'd be over in a couple of weeks, we wouldn't mind having a couple of weeks of peace.

I have actually heard of that. You’d need a few more rooms than we have!

We have a one bedroom apartment and wouldn’t be able to self isolate from each other.

I don’t think you’re meant to self isolate for family members that you live with!

Our fridge is full, I can work from home, as long as I wasn’t actually ill I don’t think I’d mind 2 weeks confined to quarters. But Mr Kalinka is self employed and wouldn’t be able to earn. We have a one bedroom apartment and wouldn’t be able to self isolate from each other.

Yes, bliss.

But i do appreciate that I am lucky enough to have paid sick leave, an understanding employer, a freezer full of food, internet & a Netflix account. DH and DS would be happy as well.
