Which Barbie Dreamhouse?

DD is Barbie obsessed so there's no question Father Christmas will be bringing her a Barbie Dreamhouse, but I've only just discovered there's more than one type?! The Day to Night Dreamhouse, one with a blue lift, one with a pink lift?

I don't think she has a particular one in mind as she doesn't watch adverts but has talked about a house which has a lift.

Any suggestions on the "best" one?

i've got two girls that have had 3. they are awful and an absolute nightmare to put together. then they continuously come apart, things are lost and are so bulky end up in the way of everything. They are so expensive and very low quality and i just don't know why i agreed to keep buying them after the previous one utterly failed.

Elvera2 · 28/08/2023 12:32

Yes, we had two and they both ended up going in the bin. It's a real shame the quality of these things has decreased so much. My dd likes Barbie, too.

Notthisnotthat · 28/08/2023 12:37

We bought Smyths own version, cheaper and much better quality. DD is now 8 and it's survived a house move and still well used.

StressedToDeathhhh · 28/08/2023 12:38

Honestly they're a load of shit there's a reason you can never find a full one second hand. They just break and lose bits. Never again

purpleme12 · 28/08/2023 12:40

We didn't get the official one.
We got this one although it was half price when we found it.

We have the day to night one and it’s been fine. Yes the bits end everywhere but it hasn’t come apart or anything.

My niece has this one and it's brilliant, really nice quality. DB got it half price around black Friday kind of time I believe.

I had the wooden miami 4 storey one from studio a couple of years ago. Easy to put together and still going strong. I couldn't justify the price for the barbie one so ordered the one from studio at less than half the price at £90.

mummee03 · 28/08/2023 12:47

We have the latest dreamhouse, and kids love it. Yeah, u do get wee bits that come off, but the good thing is they are all clip in. My two girls love it.

We have this one too. It's been great! It's still in perfect condition.

Im going to go against other views. Dgd really wanted the dream house, instead she got a stunning kidkraft one with light up feature and sounds when she was 4. She did play with it, but still kept on about the barbie one. So we all chipped in for her 6th birthday and got the dream house with lights and sounds (not the 2023 version but the one before that). I can honestly say it's been fantastic. Played with daily, never fell to bits (easily wipeable too) it's definitely her most played with toy. She's 7 1/2 and it still looks like new, despite all its been through. So wish we'd gone with it in the first place. It will have a decent resale value too. The kiddkraft one was nearly £200, sold for £20

Mrsfussypants1 · 28/08/2023 13:15

Just to add, she played with the kidkraft one a fraction of the amount of time she does the Barbie one.

BlairWaldorfOG · 28/08/2023 15:25

We also bought the Jupiter Mansion, sturdy but massive, really good quality. Didn't get played with as much as I'd hoped though, I do wonder if we should have got the plastic fantastic Barbie one instead.

Cluckycluck · 28/08/2023 17:56

I went for the Jupiter Workshops one and my DD loves it. Every child that comes to our house loves it. It's really sturdy and good quality.

WaitingfortheTardis · 29/08/2023 07:46

I'm in a similar dilemma, I like the Jupiter and Kidkraft ones as they are wooden, but are they less special because they aren't technically Barbie? There are some YouTube reviews of a lot of the houses, but they all sound great on there!

Acunningruse · 29/08/2023 09:45

Thanks for all the replies on this! The one @purpleme12 linked to looks much more solid than the Barbie plastic monstrosity but it doesn't have a lift so not the one for DD unfortunately.

They seem to vary so much in price- from £189 right up to £350???!!! So going to see if i can have a look at some IRL to see what the difference is.

@Acunningruse it does have a lift

Acunningruse · 29/08/2023 09:50

This is the one the link is taking me to @purpleme12, am I being really dense and not seeing a lift?

What about a big dollhouse instead of a barbie one which are like £200 for plastic

mangomama91 · 29/08/2023 09:54

Father Christmas got my daughters a second hand dolls house with a lift when the oldest daughter (then 6) asked for a barbie house. I didn't think the actual barbie ones looked strong enough.
It's not as fancy as the one you have shown there in argos but the oldest is now 10 and both girls still play with it pretty much every day and it's still going strong.

Fedupdoc · 29/08/2023 09:56

My daughter has had this one for nearly 3 years
Plays with it daily. Loves it. I think the quality is fine, nothing has broken

There's definitely a lift in it.
If you click on the link and then look at product details it says 'working elevator' and the lift is in pictures (if you know what you're looking for). Close up of lift is in picture 6 I think and in the whole picture the lift is to the right of the 'hot tub'.

I have to kind of agree with this. My DD got a beautiful Kidkraft one too which is sturdier and its amazing for half the price. However I know deep down she would prefer the barbie one as she still talks about it and I think she would play with it more.

Tambatamba · 02/09/2023 18:57

Oh dear my daughter has been asking for one and I don't think we have house room
For it honestly.

Gummybear75 · 02/09/2023 19:33

We have the one with the pink lift. Pretty sure its the Day and Night one.
It's absolutely massive though! But very sturdy (I discovered my DD was using hers as a step up to her wardrobe!) And the only pieces are the pieces you expect with any Barbie/Pollypocket/Playmobil/Doll type toy.
It's played with everyday, and the newer one isn't that different but is much more expensive from what I can tell!

I always try and get Barbie second hand though!
