Really stuck for DH present ideas

Hi, I am really struggling for ideas for dh gifts this year. He doesn't have any hobbies although he is getting into diy and has put a tool set with hack saw on his list but I have no idea what good ones are. He likes good wines from France or Italy. I have thought about getting him a dash cam for his car. That's as far as I've gotten.

He's so hard to buy for.

I got my dh:
A bottle of the whisky he really likes
A set of pharmaceutical top trumps from present indicative (bit of a joke present)
A beanie hat with a light on the front
Some of his favourite chocolates
A little handcare set because his hands get trashed at work.
A magnetic wristband for holding screws and nails when hes working.

I got my husband:

AirPods
A board game he asked for
A good kitchen knife
A Barbour dressing gown
A yard of ale
Some fancy caramel peanuts
Some chocolates he likes
A couple of vinyls
An ember stay hot mug

Dh and I decided last year to stop buying 'stuff' but still wanted gifts to open so have started a tradition of plannng a weekend away for each other. Three or four small boxes, with details of where we are staying, where we are eating and what we are doing. I love it, love the planning and am very excited to see what he's planned for me.

HerbivorousRex · 20/11/2021 14:07

@Kayemm that’s an amazing idea! I love the idea of have several boxes with different elements of the plan in (I’m definitely stealing this idea)

I have a very awkward DH too - we don't really do expensive presents, so this year he's getting:

A magnifying glass thing for his keyring, as he's forever forgetting his glasses, and can't read labels etc without them

A Yorkshire Ex-Pat T- shirt, cos he's proud to be from there

Some posh car air fresheners cos his car's his favourite place to be

A 'Bovine Alien Abduction' toy (recommended by an MNer), cos it's as silly as he is :)

That's it so far, but I'm still on the hunt!

Is he a member of the Wine Society? My DH loves wine, in particular trying new ones. The Wine Soc do curated boxes of 'finds' at various price points. It's not a generic thing like Naked Wines, it's for real enthusiasts, DH loves these boxes, he's like a kid at Christmas when his arrives!
Just an example of one box

All your gifts sound really lovely and well thought out. The weekend idea is fantastic, really personal and romantic.

I had a quick look at the wine society and it looks fab. I think dh would be happy with that.

I’m really stuck for my DH as well.

So far I’ve bought him one of these maps
They do different versions, I’ve bought the great adventure map, we have a campervan so thought it might be good for planning trips. They do other versions as well, history, food and drink etc.

This is all I’ve bought though, so hoping some others are along with more suggestions.

How on earth could you be “ really stuck” when a bit of wine could sort it.! Wine has got to be the most generic gifts imaginable.

I came on to share Cameo that another poster recommended. It’s famous people sending a personalised message. Really good if you have someone with a Christmas birthday. 20% off this weekend

DH has his cricket membership for his Christmas present so I only buy token presents. So far I have 2 coffees, a high caffeine one and a bourbon flavour one. A couple of books from the works and charity shop plus a cotton and cashmere jumper. If he doesn't like that I'll have it.

WildStallyn · 20/11/2021 20:01

My DH enjoys making wine, is that something yours would be interested in? Or a voucher for a vineyard tour/ wine tasting? Otherwise a wine selection from Fortnum and Mason or something.

We spend £20 in Home Bargains.

yoshiblue · 20/11/2021 20:14

If he likes decent wine buy him a bottle of Amarone from Sainsbury's. It's about £22 but the most lovely wine.

BeringBlue · 20/11/2021 21:32

We usually just buy each other a couple of books (never a surprise - we've asked for them) so we have something to unwrap in front of our son. Then we usually buy something for the whole family that our son can unwrap. Left to our own devices, we probably wouldn't exchange gifts at all, because we buy what we need during the year.

Justjoinedforthis · 20/11/2021 21:47

We also stopped doing gifts, it’s such a load off. We put some money towards a meal out instead.

loveablequalities · 20/11/2021 22:00

We do four gifts:

Something to wear (bamboo slouching pants)
Something to read (a signed edition from one of his favourite authors)
Something to eat (chocolate covered coffee beans)
Something to drink (single malt from the good booze shop in town)

His birthday is in January though so I have also got hiking socks, fancy liquorice, a book of cryptic crosswords and will think of a few other things hopefully.

Really I'd like to take him away for a couple of nights but I'm not sure what the covid situation will be and the logistics seem too difficult with the kids.

Dewalt is a good make. FiL has a van full of tools and could build a semi detached house out of an old garden fence and a sheet of tarpaulin and he only uses Dewalt. I think they’re yellow and black.

2squared · 21/11/2021 09:00

Where are the posh air fresheners from please ?

BeaLola · 21/11/2021 09:12

karmarie where is the magnetic wristband from? – That sounds something that my DH could definitely use, thank you

powershowerforanhour · 21/11/2021 09:34

Another vote for DeWalt tools, DH requested a cordless drill/power screwdriver thing last year and he is as happy as a pig in muck with it, he uses it loads. Apparently a hacksaw frame is not as important as the blades. He says Sandex are quite good.

Love this idea! We tend to do tickets for something for the same reason, nice things to look forward to rather than stuff if there’s nothing in particular we need.

These sound fab. Maybe dh could build me a little cabin in the garden, filled with wine and books 🤞
