Waffle makers?

Both dc's love going to these horrid expensive waffle and ice cream places so thought I would buy them a waffle maker for Christmas so I can eat waffles and ice cream on Christmas Day ,I'm going to do them a little hamper with different syrup and pancake mix but I have no idea what waffle maker to buy? Do I buy a plug in cheap one or a waffle iron (do they just go on the stove?). Can anyone recommend one that's not too expensive as this isn't their main present.

What's the advantage of the flipping one? About to buy it

It cooks more evenly and this one is a high enough wattage to make it crisp nicely.
Having enough power is the most important thing.

My husband got me one pre kids and it made them too thin, thickness not consistency, so there wasn't really a nice squish middle bit 😖 putting more mix in just made a squashed out mess so I gave up on the dream

I've got an older one which doesn't flip over, but it was quite expensive (present from lovely SIL!) so it makes great waffles.

Now I want waffles on xmas morning, too! And I can make it happen!

I bought the Cuisinart one on Saturday :) we had lovely waffles yesterday, both sides cooked evenly even though it doesn't flip.
I bought it because you can buy plates which turn it into a deep fill sandwich maker which is something that I also wanted so I thought I'd get one machine & two sets of plates.

Boooooo, sorry, DH makes them so I don't know the recipe!

I used to have a multi-purpose one with different plates but it didn't really get hot enough to make decent waffles. A more expensive one probably would have been fine.

I've got one with two sets of plates: one for waffles and one for toasted sandwiches, it's great. The waffles aren't massive though.

Thank you everyone, I bought the flip over one (just went crazy and did almost all my Christmas shopping on Amazon). My dd's will love it and will give them something to do Christmas morning as there won't be as many presents to open this year due to them asking for an expensive main present. I just need to get some nice sauces and syrups nearing Christmas and some nice ice cream.

I ordered a waffle mix to save the kids chucking ingredients around Christmas Day, hopefully the mix will be ok, after Christmas we can make them from scratch.

Recipe above. Also google buttermilk waffles, they are amazing!
Also mine doesnt flip but never had any issues, evenly cooks ok both sides, just dont put too much batter on as will spill out

I make waffles every Sunday morning for waffle mad ds. Here is my buttermilk recipe - makes 8 waffles

Plain flour 180g
Sugar 50g
Cornflour 28g
Baking powder 2 teaspoons
Salt 1/4 teaspoon
Bicarb of soda 1/2 teaspoon
Buttermilk 295 mls
Eggs 2
Butter 113g (melted)
Vanilla essence 1 teaspoon

1. Mix all the dry ingredients in a large bowl
   
2. Whisk together eggs, buttermilk, butter, and vanilla in a separate bowl.
   
3. Stir wet ingredients into dry until just combined.
