I feel terrible, it was my fault completely, I forgot to lock up the eglu last night, never forgotten before. I was woken up at about 4am with a horrible noise, rushed up the garden but it was too late, they were gone. My husband found them both this morning, killed not eaten.
The garden looks so empty without them

for you. I keep ending up going out in the middle of the night (well, 12am) to shut the door because DH forgets and I don't want to be the one who finds the consequences in the morning. Our chooks are currently sulking in their run because all the weeds were sprayed yesterday so they can't go out - we have tried explaining to them that most 'townie' chickens don't get free run of gardens at all because of foxes but they give us their very best 'pok' in response to that.

Apparently killing sprees round here are more likely to be badgers than foxes (commercial pheasant shoots as neighbours = very efficient fox control)

sorry to hear that isgrassgreener.
it really does hurt when the fox gets in.

if you restock , please make sure you always lock it up.

i know that's probably not what you want to hear right now.
i am sorry that you've had to see it.

Forgot to shut both! usually I shut would both door or else they wake up early and make too much noise.
The fox must have thought it was his lucky day, they would have been asleep in their coop, and he was able to just get straight in and kill them.
Still feel guilty today.
