Hi Apologies, a bit long-winded, but I wanted to paste the DVLA guidance. Just wondering if anyone had this experience of renewing a driving licence recently.. Due to getting re-married and moving, I needed to change my name AND address and could only do this by post. I ticked the box to state they could check my identity online with my passport details and they have sent me a new license with an updated photo on it that matches my passport - I did not request an updated photo. I have just noticed it is only valid from Jun-26 to Nov-31. Looking online I am seeing this about new license rules... The new licence rules will also affect lorry and bus drivers. As such, [[https://www.gov.uk/ www.gov.uk]] says: “If you pass your driving test in categories C, CE, C1, C1E, D, DE, D1 or D1E, after 19 January 2013 you’ll get a licence valid for 5 years. Every 5 years up to age 45, you’ll need to sign a declaration to show you still meet the medical standards. After age 45, you’ll need to provide a medical examination report every 5 years to renew your driving entitlement.” I am 53 and passed in 1996 so do have these entitlements automatically *EDIT* but have never driven a bus or lorry or will ever have the need to in my lifetime. Then I see this... If you apply to replace your licence because it is lost or stolen, or your personal details have changed, your new licence will run until the end of your original period. However, if you update your photo at the same time you’ll come under the new 5-year rule.” I didn't renew my photo - THEY did. Finally, “drivers over 45 will continue to renew their entitlement as they do now. When you renew your licence at the end of a 5-year period, you’ll need to provide a medical examination report.” So because I am 53, and passed in 1996, and they have renewed my photo when I changed personal details, and have never had any issues with fines, points, medical history, nothing like that, does this mean I will need to renew every 5 years with a medical being done from now on? Just pees me off I am going to have to pay for this when it is not something I have asked for but seems to have kick started as they have changed my photo - or is this something that all people over 45 now have to do going forward? I am really not very clear on it, and I am not sure many people know about this. Thanks
