Baby hates car, different car seat?

Just wondered if anyone had had success of getting their baby to stop screaming in the car by getting a different car seat?
We currently have a maxi cosi cabriofix. Ds is 4 months and has reflux. Any suggestions of a better seat? Also, daft question but can you buy car seats and return them if they are no good?

If you are looking at next size up I would really recommend the Britax First Class - it was recommended to me on MN and it's been great, it is suitable from birth (with insert and RF) to about 4 years old and can face either way, excellent recline. DD has been very happy in hers having hated the cabrio.

We Have the cabriofix and DS hates the car too! Wedge taken out made it more comfortable for him but he still screams after a few minutes. Currently looking at the next size up seats and hoping he'll be happier in the next one!

We had the same problem our Daughter has silent reflux and the best thing was when we could turn her around. The facing backwards made the car journey awful. I won't say it solves everything but I was able to have her in the car without the screaming.

Do you have a mirror so that your child can see you? Might help to reassure them.

I was just going to post this. Have the cabrio fix too and she has silent reflux but her hatred of the car has only just started in the last few weeks (she is 16 weeks). We've already removed the foam bit and the new born infant stuff as she's big and long for her age.....

Really need to find a solution so we can actually travel more than 10mins 😩

DD was much happier once we moved her from her cabrio to britax first class plus - however that was at 15 months and more boredom than reflux related.

I second taking out the bottom part of the foam wedge in the cabrio - I didn't even realise this was possible until DC2!

You ought to be able to return an unused car seat but would have to keep it pretty pristine/labels still on etc - could be tricky with reflux!

5 minutes, I have the cabriofix too. Can I suggest (if you haven't already) taking the foam wedge out of the bottom of the seat part? My DS hated sitting in it or the car (silent reflux) until j removed it when he was 7 weeks old.

Just a thought before you go buying something different

My son hated his infant carrier and we moved him to the besafe izi. It's much higher up and he started just falling asleep in the car. Amazing.

That's interesting Captain.
Anyone else?

We did. At 6 months we moved DS from the infant carrier to a besafe izi i size (but they do belted ones too) and it made a huge difference to how happy he was in the car. He had severe reflux.

Mmm do you have friends with babies, can you try borrowing a different seat to see if it makes a difference? I can't imagine at that age a new seat would make any difference. They are all so similar. My only suggestion, which you've probably already tried, is to hang some toys from the carry handle for him to look at while he's in the car.
