What can I do when someone with MH issues is blogging about me and my family?

A 'friend' sent me the link to the blog a few weeks ago

I laughed about it at first

Now I'm worried she is getting carried away with the 'support' she is getting online

as in the way she puts things, is not how it is in real life

I can distance myself but other elderly family members would still be involved

What kind of stuff is the person saying? Do they identify you and your family by name?

This post might be better in _chat, as this section is more for people who blog (IYKWIM?)

It's a valid discussion here too though. You never know who is behind the keyboard and how do we evaluate whether they are genuine or not? In a blogging community - the same as a forum community - you get to know the person by the type of information they share with you on screen.

This is why I'm so open and honest on my blog - what you see is what you get. But there are many bloggers who don't want to be that open for varying reasons. Others take advantage of anonymity afforded by the online world.

A situation like this could be very damaging.

Could you ask the person to remove anything that refers to you and not blog about you anymore or you will report them to wordpress/blogger (the company that runs the blog) and who ever deals with privacy issues.

Also maybe speak to the people you know saying that you have asked this person not to blog about you.
Deformation of character if info is incorrect

Sorry I'm late coming back to this, broadband issues

I did post in chat first but then thought it might be better here

We are not being named as such but the blogger is quite open about who she is and then mentions her relationship with us, which then identifies us IYKWIM

I find it quite funny when I'm referred too, it doesn't bother me as such, it actually makes me feel a bit sorry for her if anything

but the thing I'm worried about is older family members, who have spent years supporting her and trying to help her

She then complains about them in the blog and gets comments about how she should stand up for herself and 'no is a complete sentence' etc

So in real life she starts being cruel to the people she relies on, which isn't helping anyone really

I haven't told anyone else about her blog as I don't want to upset them but it does explain the sudden mood swings and why people are getting confused and upset

Tricky situation.

I guess you could send an email to the host of the blog (Wordpress or Blogger) but I am not sure how much help they will be.

"no is a complete sentence" - I have only ever heard that on MN. Does she post here?

I hope not Grin

I am going to just leave things for now

If I report it to wordpress she will only get more paranoid and that wont help

thanks for the advice
