Do you know what Jo - I like your blog. It's honest and normal and seems to be a slice of your life with some ace recipes thrown in for good measure.

In my humble opinion blogs should be exactly what the blogger wants them to be. If this is your intention then you're onto a winner.

As for spelling and grammar, I have a degree in English Lang and Literature and I still can't use apostrophes. Don't worry about it.

Consider your bit of market research completed! :-)

I agree with the others, your blog is a bit too busy.

You need a nice calm background and a big clear pic of your lovely blue Aga, as that is your "hook".

I would put the blablah bit that you currently have under your photo into the "about me" bit as it is distracting.

Don't say that your grammar is bad, but do try and work on it. Drawing attention to it makes it worse imo. Do your posts on Word where you have spell check and if need be. I don't think that recipe blogs have to be perfectly written, but they do need to be clear - if I cannot understand your meaning, I will not read on.

I like your chatty tone, and the bits of normal life alongside the recipes. You should think about not naming people though - I know you haven't revealed any secrets about your pilates teachers, but some people are not happy if they are named online. Maybe just say, "my pilates teacher and her daughters" and use initials if you are going to be referring to them again.

And PARAGRAPHS.

flaming bongo, I am not sure who you refer to re demanding to know something.

I am simply curious as to why people make the effort to share details of their life on the web. I'm not having a go at anyone. SOme people have given answers I understand

And of course I realise a blog is to share with whatever part of the world wants to read it, and not the whole world. But that still sets it apart from writing your own diary in a book by your bedside , or indeed playing golf

Fair enough, BIWI, but Jasper sounded rather narky in some of her posts. Apologies, Jasper, if I've read too much into them!

Well, I'm glad you've asked the question jasper - and I think it's an absolutely legitimate one. There are a lot of things other people do that I don't get, and I often wonder why they get it - just the same with blogging.

I don't quite get it, yet I'm sort of interested in it at the same time.

Report
FlamingoBingo · 01/08/2011 09:04

No, it's to share it with the part of the world that wants to read it, whether that's five people, or five-hundred people, or no people! The fact is that some people enjoy doing it and some people don't - we don't all go around demanding to know why some people like things we don't.

FB, the difference between golf and a blog though is part of a blog is to share your stuff with the world

Why bother, if you don't want to, jasper?

I don't understand why people play golf, or chess, or any number of things that don't interest me. I don't feel the need to ask them what their motivation for doing it is, though, and I don't feel the need to think I'll ever try it myself one day.

I blog because I like shouting random chickenny crap in to the ether. And it's a bit like writing a diary. I refer back to various ailments etc and the treatment thereof. And it's good practice for the world changing novel I might get around to eventually

Hi everyone, thank you for your feed back, not really sure why I started writing other than thought it would be a good way to log my recipes, not great on word, so here seemed an easy place, I thought that's what blogs were little bit about people, a few recipes some pic's, just sort of put down what i'd like to read. Many thanks again for your time and comments. JO

Shirley your blog makes me laugh and that is good enough for me. Agree re absent OP. perhaps Aga on the blink?

I blog because I have periodically tried to keep a diary because I aspire to be like Kenneth Williams and be able to 'look up' what I was doing on any given day. Perhaps it's my fear of dementia. Perhaps i want to show what i can get up to before the Parkinsons claims me Perhaps I wanted proof I actually finish some of my white elephants stitchy projects. I don't think I'm particularly interesting and only recently went public but ultimately I do it because it's a laugh. Nothing serious. Is that a bad thing? Some seem to think you should be a great writer or have a particularly well formed soapbox. I say step away from the judgypants and lighten up. Me included, sorry, am ranting a bit. Not directed at anyone here I assure you. Smile

So where is the OP? Very suspicious!

To Jasper: I blog because I like writing and, it appears from my hits, that people like reading what I write! I have a blog about myself as well as my parenting blog, and people are interested in it, comment, converse...and they're not all people I know IRL being nice to me either.

So there!
